Question about 2001 Volkswagen Jetta TDI

Open Question

2001 Jetta tdi rough running, then heavy blue smoke and no start

Timing belt looks OK, new starter from dealer, rocking car in gear moves crank and cam, engine oil level OK a little dark. Found heavy oil coating in plastic tube leading to intake manifold, checked air ducts before turbo looks OK so i will asume the oil seal om the turbo failed. If this is the case could it be the cause of the engine failing to turn over and what else might need attention?
Thanks
Bill

SOURCE: I have a 2002 VW Jetta TDI and am problems with turbo.

Hallo
1.Disconect lower hose from intercooler and oil (from 0,1 liter or more) (sometimes 1-2 liters) comes out, you should not drive it.(car had probably loose power) Change the turbine, oil and oil filter. do not forget to disconect lower hose and let oil drain out. Otherwise when new turbine is instald, the air flow will **** this oil inside the engine and distroy it.
2.your car is not designed to run without turbine and will not work like normal disel.(SDI).
hope it helps
Marko

The timing belt in my 2001 pt cruiser is broken. Did this cause any damage to the engine? or do we just need to replace the timing belt

Its got damage, bent valves. replace every thing on timing belt, tensioner, pulleys, water pump. The head needs to go to a machine shop and bent valves replaced.

valve seals are going. when car sits excess oil gets past the valve seals then when you staRT up it burns the oil off then runs fine and no more blue smoke. It is fine to run like that had the same in a dodge caravan 1996 6cyl. ran another 100 000 km. and still ran fine got rid of it for other reasons.

Timing specs for 2001 jetta 1.8 turbo

you have two timing marks one down on the crank pulley the other on the v/c remove plastic covers there is a little notch in the v/c. make sure the cam gear and crank pulley both line up. before you remove the belt. de-tension the tension roller. You will need a long thin screw and 5-6 thin large round washer to push down on the tensioner. good luck

Ouch! you've got engine coolant in the exhaust from a leak somewhere...DO NOT run this engine until you get someone (dealer is best in this instance) to diagnose ($50-125)
