I have a 1996 sidekick with 3 speed tranny, works great but won't shift in 3rd gear kickdown cable is good and vaccum governor was replaced, oil is red what could be the problem

Have you checked vacuum at the modulator? ( this is not a govenor) Vacumm should be about 18 at idle and go to almost zero whem you open the throttle. If the 1-2 shift is late I would suspect low vacuum or detent cable out of adjustment. If the 1-2 shif is normal i would suspect a stuck valve or a mechanical problem inside trans.

My truck don't shift. Has one forward and reverse. It is a 2500 1992.

Check transmission governor which is a gear driven metering device for the valve body. Its the old school speed sensor.Remove governor and inspect for stripped gears or stuck valves. This fluid circuit is critical for trans upshift...also check TV cable at the carburetor....this is the old school throttle position sensor for the trans control valve body.

If the trans.oil is dark brown in color and smell's burnt your tranny is probably on it's last leg.If tou have bad pump pressure or low oil you will have to rev the eng to get it to build enough pressure to move.Your detent cable or kick down cable is for passing, when you step on the gas when passing someone this cable is pulled causing the trans. to go into a lower gear and when you let off the gas it should shift back into a higher gear.if it's out of adjustment it will kickdown to soon or to late.If your car has alot of miles it may be in need of a filter and fluid change, but usually when slipping occures its to late and you will need a replacement tranny.Hope this was helpfull.

700R transmission shifting late... not the TV cable

As long as your sure the TV cable is adjusted properly, then I would suspect you are correct in that the valve is sticking. You could try some of the mystery oil or trans clean fluids that you by at the parts stores.

1985 El Camino stock upshifts to early and downshifts to late.

Check your throttle valve cable is your first step.Disconnect it and make sure that when you pull it it returns smoothly. Then you can reset the adjustment,Push in the tab on the cable where it attaches to the linkage and push the cable back towards the trans. Then step on the gas pedal to full throttle that will set the cable where it needs to be.If that doesn't help it is more than likely an internal trans problem.

1986 corvette 700R4 transmission will not down shift from overdrive to third during hard acceleration. Transmission recently rebuilt new throttle valve, TV cable working and adjusted properly. Help?

Are you sure the TV ( trans shift cable at the throttle valve) cable is correctly adjusted?? Without line pressure readings, I can only guess that the D3/Part throttle check ball is missing, if it is a trans problem
If the TV is correct, I am assuming that the TV cable is pulled tight at WOT.
Did you check the throttle (ACCEL) cable to be sure that the carb goes wide open when your accel pedal is on the floor?? This must be done with someone in the car and a second person looking at the carb. Without doing this, you do not know if you have WOT. Without WOT, the trans will not de-tent and shift down.
