2000 Buick Lasabre jerks

I have a 2000 Buick Lasbre (136,000 miles) that jerks when I go up hills as well as off and on when I drive flat. The engine light came on all of a sudden too. It seems like when it jerks, it is struggling to change gears...not sure, can someone please give me some idea of what could be wrong so I'll have an idea before I take it to a mechanic? I can't afford to get ripped off!

Thanks!

By jerking I am assuming you mean abrupt shifting? If so, my 2000 Buick Lesabre did the same thing going from first gear to second and then again when it went into overdrive. The culprit was the pressure control solenoid in the transmission. There is a pressure test to determine if it is bad. Apparently sediment from the trans fluid can cause this soleniod to stick and this coould be the cause of your problem.

I had a chevy lumina that was doing the same way. All it took to fix it was a tune up- new sparkplugs, plug wires, and a new fuel filter. If that don't fix the problem get the transmission serviced with a new filter and oil.

Good luck and God Bless

toyota avanza
if the engine light is on there are fault codes to be read
these need specific diagnostic readers

when was it last serviced

Check engine light on or flashing ? Engine misfire an you fried the catalytic converter but that is just a guess without testing . Can't help you don't have a lot of money . Your best option , take it to a qualified repair shop an have it tested properly .Don't guess ,test .

Prado jerking while going up hill or jerking when accelerating

Hi,
When was the last tune-up done? Should be done every 30-45KM, or depending on what your owner's manual maintenance book states.
1. Spark plugs
2. Spark plug wires
3. Fuel Filter
4. Air filter
5. Oxygen Sensor

If these have recently been replaced then do you have Check Engine Light (CEL)? If so, you'll need to get that checked by a mechanic.

When I get to 60 mph or when I first crank up my 2000 Buick lasbre stalls.

First check fuel pressure to specification. My suggestion is a faulty mass airflow sensor. At idle lightly tap on mass airflow sensor with screwdriver handle and listen for erratic change in engine rpm. Wiggle airflow sensor connector and listen for any changes also. Replace sensor if rpm changes.

Sounds like your car is misfiring, if you can take your car to a parts store like pep boys or autozone and they will plug it in for free and you will get some engine codes. This will tell you EXACTLY what is going on here. If it is misfiring then your best bet is to change coils plugs and wires.

My car is jerking while accelerating and reaching certain RPM

I would look for a fault in the ignition system such as a cracked spark plug. Might need a scope check to put your finger on the problem
