1997 Ford F-150 2wd Battery

Hey everyone. I have a 1997 Ford F-150, and I'm having what I think are battery issues. In the summer at times when I would start my truck I would start to turn on when I turned the key occasionally I would have to turn the key a second time and it would fire right up. Now this it's cold it only takes one cold night and it is totally dead barely turns over if at all. Would this be the battery or something else?

When it won't start up or crank over, do you have headlights or other accessories? It might not be the battery at all. It might be the starter.

If you have headlights and accessories but no starter cranking, then slide under the passenger side behind the front wheel and locate the starter. Give it a couple taps with a hammer and try starting it. If it starts, the starter is the problem.

If you stop by a service shop, auto zone or O'Reillys or even a walmart auto center they can check your battery and charging system for free or a minimal cost.

How do you replace multifunction switch in a 1997 ford thunderbird?

Hey Dana,

First off be sure to take off the negative battery cable then the positive. Wait a couple of mins. so your airbags don't deploy. Remove the steering column cover and then the two retaining bolts. Pull the switch out, unplug the connector and withdraw the switch assembly from the steering column. With new switch plug in the electrical connector, place the switch in position and install the screws. Tighten the bolts securely and put the steering column cover back on. Put the battery cables back on.

1997 caravan battery went bad put on new one now wont start do anything do they havesome thing to do with theft system

Caravans have a single-point of failue issue at this advanced age. Much of the electrical wiring gathers into a bundle. After the heat of many summers, the insulation in the bundle breaks down, causing multiple system issues. The only fix is to replace the wiring harness, a job for an advanced technician, but not for amatuers who wish to retain their sanity.

Check engine light came on, fault is for the Cam shaft position sensor. I changed the sensor. Didn't work. I changed the whole synchronizer assembly. Didn’t work. I checked the wiring, all good continuity...

OK, on a 1998 Ford Taurus have a service engine soon light. Scanning it said the Camshaft Sensor circuit was bad. So I replaced the camshaft sensor. Cleared the code and it came back.

In the winter time it comes, and in the summer time it goes away (or after a week or so of warm weather).

I think it's a wiring problem or a bad calibration of distance to the reluctor ring.

I think your problem on the 1997 Ford Thunderbird LX is the same thing.

Good luck on the repair.

Son's 99 Grand Am Gt has been giving starting problems.  Starts, then dies.  May or may not start again.  Tune up earlier this summer, plugs wires, etc.  Changed fuel filter. could it be the fuel...

HEY!! I had same problem and i didnt know i solved it til i put in a brand new battery! I think the battery was getting old, and the extra amps told the 'computer' that the car wasnt running and it just died at start up sometimes. the new battery must have kept the computer from 'glitching off' when we started it. and all is great now!
