Question about 2003 Toyota Corolla

2003 Toyota Corolla Headlights

My mom's car headlights will automatically turn on when the car is on as well as a manual switch to turn them on. Lately, the car is turned off and the headlights are off, but when she goes out the next morning, the headlights will be on and the battery is dead. We check the headlight switch which is not on and the lights will not turn off. We have taken the car to the dealership and they said there was nothing wrong. This is the 4 time it has happened.

i have the sam problem and took it to the dealership a couple times. they charged me to look at it and said there was no problem. I took it back yesterday and they called today and stated that it was a rare problem and it is the highlight switch. They said it would cost over $250 to fix. Have you had any luck with getting yours fixed?

sounds kind of like a faulty switch .. also make sure the sensor on the dash is not covered up by anything .. it tells when night and day is here.

I have an 03 corolla and in 04 we had this same problem. It was really bad when the temps would dip very low(appeaered to be cold sensitive). I would jump-start the car and let it warm up and the problem would go away. The dealership replaced the module that worked with the sensor(the sensor for the auto headlights) and since then we have not had this problem. Also from my understanding there was a manufacturers release on this, but not a recall. Hope this helps.

My 2000 Toyota Corolla headlights will not turn on during the night, and stay on during the day

Your Corolla has daytime running lights (DRLs). A photocell determines whether it is day or night. Your DRLs turn on automatically in daytime without you operating the light control ("headlight") switch. Your DRLs are actually your headlights on low beam. At night, the photocell senses it is dark and disables the DRLs. When you set the light control ("headlight") switch to HEAD, the head relay closes and the headlights should turn on. Since they don't, I suggest opening the engine room junction block and checking the 40A MAIN fuse and the 10A LEFT HEAD (UPPER) and RIGHT HEAD (UPPER) fuses. In engine room relay block 5, check the 10A LH-LWR HEAD and RH-LWR HEAD fuses. Replace any blown fuses and the headlights should be working normally again

Is there a way to make the headlights automatically go off when the ignition is turned off - daughter keeps leaving the lights on

The only way to make the headlights turn off automatically is to install Automatic Lamp Controls (ALC). You would have to install a new switch, Body Control Module (BCM) and circuitry. Could be a costly project, but I would suggest you research it.

The automatic headlights will not turn on in a 2001 Toyota Corolla. What could the problem be?

check relay in fuse box under hood. Relay should click when you turn lights on manually. If not, replace relay.
