1990 Grand Waggy shuts off when put into gear

My '90 Waggy shuts off when I put it into gear. However, if I let it sit running for 30-45 minutes, then put it into gear, it doesn't shut off. The transmission is fine, and it drives and runs fine once the 30 minute sit and run is achieved.
Here is what friends have suggested:
1. Ignition/steering column electrical problem
2. Vacuum hose leak
3. Carb

Any ideas?

It's the carburetor. Either the choke spring needs to be replaced or the fast idle linkage is gummed up or broken. If the fast idle works don't rev the engine to disengage it for a slower idle (I see people do this all the time and they wonder why the car stalls when they put it into gear). If the choke is adjusted to spec and the choke spring is good the choke pull off should open the choke plate when you push the accelerator down. If it doesn't adjust the linkage and or replace the pull of diaphragm. Want better gas mileage and more horse power? Replace the carb and intake manifold, add a off road cam and lifter kit, K&N air filter, headers. At least consider a Edelbrock manifold and Holley 670 CFM Truck Avenger carb. . If your cheap you can just buy a rebuilt carb for your Jeep from Holley. But remember your 360 makes only 140 HP and gets 8-12 MPG stock and upgrading with bolt on parts could get you 225-260 HP and up to 15 MPG, mileage is better from the engine being more efficient (having more power means you won't need to floor it as often, so you'll end up running at a lower average RPM) .

The TCC solenoid in the transmission needs to be replaced. It is under the side cover. It controls the converter to lock up for better fuel mileage. If you want to drive car until you get it fixed you can un-plug the connector going to the transmission on the front of transmission. This will keep it from going to lock up mode and keep it from stalling until you can fix it. Common problem.

If it only warms up to operating temperature and dies check the EGR Valve. It should be open within 10 minutes or so. If not the engine will die out although it will start after the engine cools down again
