Question about 1982 Ford F 250
I NEED TO REPLACE MY RING AND PINON AND i CAN FIND THE CODE OR NUMBER THAT THE PART STORE IS ASKING ME. ITS A 1991 CHEVY 1500 SS, CAN SOME ONE TELL ME WHERE THIS NUMBER IS LOCATED SO I CAN GET THE CORRECT PART FOR MY TRUCK.
There are a lot of different differentials used on GM's and Fords. You first need to know the gear ratio. You can find this buy removing the diff cover and coount the ring gear and divide by the pinion gear. I do not know your expertise but this is not a "drop-in" repair. It takes specialized tools and set up procedures. You also need to know if it is a limited slip or not. The part store will sell you a ring and pinion, you will also need an installation kit with bearings.
Hope this helps. I would recommend either taking it to a shop that specializes in differentials or find one from an auto dismantler foro a swap out. Please rate me high.
