Question about 1984 Volkswagen Jetta
I just purchased the vehicle soon after driving it the oil light would flash and buzzer thinking it was low on oil i stopped to check but it was good on oil idk what to do its driving me crazy!! is it something electrical?? Or mechanical??
You need to install an oil pressure gage. If the pressure is good then check the wiring to the sending unit. It could be a bad sending unit but don't replace it until you test the oil pressure. If you don't want to add the gage inside the car you could install it under the hood or use a manifold gage, it's mechanical so oil flows right to the gage instead of a sending unit, you don't leave it on the engine. Mechanics use them to test engines and transmissions. You can buy either at a auto parts store. If you have low oil pressure then either the pump is bad, the oil pump pick up screen is clogged, or the engine is worn out (bearings, valve guides, piston rings).

If the CHANGE OIL SOON indicator flashes two times, the system is resetting. Turn the key off after the the light has finished flashing, then start the vehicle. If the CHANGE OIL SOON indictor comes back on, the engine oil life monitor has not reset. Repeat the procedure again.
