Jeep 1994 grand cherokee limited having problems getting in gear

Hello.  sometimes my jeep won't go in reverse for a few seconds after i shift.  once it does it feels like it jumps off the ground and into gear.  also, during stop and go city traffic it will stay still until i give it gas and then slams into gear or simply stalls when i don't give it gas quick enough.
sound familiar?

This may be obvious but have you checked the fluid level? Remember to check it when the vehicle is at running temperature, after driving for a while. Place it in park, run the selector slowly down to your lowest gear, then back up to park. Leave it running, in park with the parking brake set (safety first!) and check the fluid level. Add fluid if necessary and then test it. Also, it's possible you may have a torn/broken transmission mount. Believe it or not, they can cause a jumping sensation. In fact, it's even possible for the transmission to bounce up and hit the bottom of the passenger compartment. Not quite the same thing, but some early 80s Camaros and Trans Ams had issues with stalling due to binding from a broken transmission mount. Just a thought, but you might want to take a look at that mount and inspect it carefully to see if the rubber portion looks like it might be torn or damaged.

My 2000 Grand Cherokee LAREDO, V6, automatic doesn't catch when you put it in R to reverse. It basically 'jump' into REVERSE gear either after a few seconds, or sometimes as much as 60...

There could be a few things wrong. The reverse slip could be a worn sevro. the slipping on shifhting gears could be seals in the solenoid package. Try some transmission additive, this will recondition the seals. this could take care of both problems. Tranx, Lucas make good additives. There are other things in the transmission that could cause this, but for $10.00 it's worth a shot. I used it my truck for slipping three years ago and still no problems.

No reverse 1994 jeep grand cherokee larado atomatic

Well, most likely it is a burned out reverse clutch pack. Which would require a trip to a tranny shop. The sooner the better, the longer you drive with the debris in the tranny the higher the likely hood of requiring a complete rebuild instead of just the reverse clutch pack. I hope this helps please rate this thank you

HI, It may seem obvious, but sometimes overlooked.... have you checked the oil level, as low oil can cause some strange things to happen! My 96 4 liter would be reluctant to move sometimes, but after I topped it up, it has been fine.

Grand cherokee wont shift out of first gear

That's called flairing and is not a good thing (indicates pressure loss inside unit) If you haven't changed the fluid in a long time sometimes a fluid and filter change with an additive such as lucas conditioner may help. Generally though, there is no real chemical fix that replaces worn parts.Depending upon where and how worn your unit is, sometimes doing this will prolong use for many months. Or, it will have no effect at all. Sealing will not happen overnight it took a long time to get this way.If you need an immediate fix, have it rebuilt.
