Door locks are operated by a round solonoid make sure it is connected with a wire .. this is what locks and unlocks your doors when you push the button .. thanks Jerry holler if you need more.

How do i remove the driver's side door handle on a 1998 VW Jetta GL

First of all, your door locks do not have as many tumblers in them as your ignition switch. A key cut for your ignition switch will make your door locks work, but a key cut to fit your door locks will not make your ignition switch work.

Besides, I have a much more economical and easier way to do it.Take your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) and proof that you own the car (Registration papers will work for both) to your local VW dealer or certified locksmith, and they can get the key code from the manufacturer and cut you a new key.

VW Jetta alarm malfunction

Go to your local junk or scrapyard and pull them yourself. The dealer charges an average of 90-100 dollars an hour. So a lot of the money they quoted you for was probably for labor

The driver side door lock broke on my 98 jetta door want open

according to my partsman (who has had great advice for many years), you do not have to remove the door panel to replace the door handle which contains the cylinder lock. the handle is released with a screw which you can see when you open the door. you will need a starhead screwdriver or socket. A new handle costs around $40 at a parts store in my area. call around for a locksmith who will re-key your key to the new lock or use the key which comes with the new lock, your choice. i am in dealing with this also

I HAD THE SAME ISSUE, IF YOU CALL THE DEALERSHIP "PARTS DEPARTMENT" - THE WILL TELL YOU EXACTLY WHAT PARTS YOU NEED. IN FACT, THIS DOOR ISSUE COMES UP SO OFTEN, THAT VW RELEASED AN A REINFORCED "UPGRADED" HOOK MECHANISM. PARTS ABOUT $50.00 & IF YOU TAKE IT TO ANY LEGIT BODY SHOP, THEY WILL INSTALL IT FOR ABOUT $70.00. (NOTE: DO NOT TRY TO INSTALL THIS YOURSELF, UN LESS YOU KNOW YOUR WAY AROUND LOCKS!)
