Question about 2006 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution

3 Answers

Evo8 hi guys. just got an evo8 and im inlove with it. What a car. Just recently its started to make a noise when changing down gears mostly but somtimes up gears. It does it mostly when the car is warm. It happens when letting the clutch up at biting point down the box. It only makes the noise at biting point and goes when taken up drive. The noise sounds like a bench dragging along the floor. anyone had this before?

Maybe check the viscosity of the oil used and also the quality. Also change the oil very regularly

The diffs also naturally make some noise that sounds, but should not cause concern.

May be you should make sure all the oil levels are good and especially the tranfer oil and check the drive shaft's center bearing as well.

Hi, when i'm coming off the third and the second gear mainly the 2nd gear it makes a clanking noise

My first thought here is your drive shaft u joints, but only because I've been stranded more than once by these. The higher torque of second will definitely make a worn u-joint "clunk". with the window down listen carefully as you engage and release your clutch in 1st gear, if you here any "clunking" noise I would check your u-joints. To do this SAFELY;ie, using jack stand etc. get under your car and try to turn the drive shaft by hand with the car in gear. ANY play in the drive shaft is bad. I'm not sure if you meant you've changed your clutch and the pressure plate or you did change out you flywheel. either way whichever you did not change could definitely be warped.

Whinning noise from engine when changing gear went to pull off in 1st gear car stalled and now cannot engae gears is this just the clutch cable or something else

Hi, I think the noise you were getting while changing gear is most likely to be the clutch release
bearing ( as you press the clutch down the release bearing contacts the clutch pressure plate
fingers ).
The whinning noise is the bearing seizing up,
Unfortunately it looks like yours has damaged the fingers of the pressure plate so the clutch is not disengaging to allow you to select a gear.
A clutch kit will need to be fitted this contains clutch plate, pressure plate, release beaing
I hope this dos`nt turn out to be to expensive for you

Increasingly loud noise coming from rear of '02 2WD 3.7L liberty

Spider gears are not difficult to replace...however, if they are worn, usually this contaminates the lube and can cause damage to carrier as well as pinion bearings...Those require precise settings with special tools and lots of experience to replace. Since you have had the noise for a long time, I can safely assume that debris has been building all that time. Spider gear set is not cheap...You may want to risk doing the job, but I would likely find another exact match, drum to drum replacement in a scrapyard. Generally I will only recommend a spider gear replacement if you have snapped a gear in half...an immediate failure
does not generate the kind of fine metal that wear does.
