HI, I HAVE A87 SAMARAI AND I CANT FIGURE OUT HOW TO REMOVE THE WATER PUMP. IFOUND THREE OF THE BOLTS BUT WHERE ARE THE OTHERS??????? ANY ONE KNOW????????
There are three more under the timing belt cover. You will have to remove the radiator to get this cover off. The water-pump housing is also part of the timing-belt tensioner.

Water Pump REMOVAL & INSTALLATION CAUTION Never open, service or drain the radiator or cooling system when hot; serious burns can occur from the steam and hot coolant. Also, when draining engine coolant, keep in mind that cats and dogs are attracted to ethylene glycol antifreeze and could drink any that is left in an uncovered container or in puddles on the ground. This will prove fatal in sufficient quantities. Always drain coolant into a sealable container. Coolant should be reused unless it is contaminated or is several years old.
Remove the timing belt as described in this section.
Remove the alternator adjusting bar.
Disconnect the lower radiator hose from the water inlet housing.

Disconnect the water temperature switch from the water inlet housing.
Disconnect the water by-pass hose from the water pump.
Remove the two heater pipe clamp bolt. Remove the two nuts and heater pipe with gasket. Replace the gasket.
Loosen the three water pump mounting bolts in the indicated sequence.

Remove the water pump and O-ring. If the water pump is stubborn, tap it a few times with a rubber mallet.
Installation is the reverse of removal. Make sure all the water pump and engine contact surfaces are clean and install the new O-ring into the pump cover groove.
Install the water pump with the three bolts. Tighten the bolts in sequence to 82 inch lbs. (9 Nm).
Fill the cooling system to the proper level with a good brand of ethylene glycol based coolant. Start the engine and inspect for leaks.
Disconnect the water temperature switch connector from the water inlet housing.
Disconnect the lower radiator hose from the water inlet housing.
Remove the timing belt and timing belt pulleys as described in this section.
Remove the two nuts attaching the water by-pass pipe to the water pump cover.
Remove the three water pump-to-engine attaching bolts.
Pull the water pump and the water pump cover out from the engine.
Remove the two O-rings and gasket. Discard them and replace with new.
Installation is the reverse of removal. Secure the water pump onto the engine and install the three bolts. Tighten the bolts in an alternate pattern to 82 inch lbs. (9 Nm). Install the by-pass pipe attaching nuts and tighten them to 82 inch lbs. (9 Nm) also.
Fill the cooling system to the proper level with coolant.
Remove the No. 1 idler pulley and tension spring. Remove the No. 2 idler pulley.
Disconnect the lower radiator hose at the water inlet.
Remove the alternator belt adjusting bar.
Loosen the two nuts and disconnect the water by-pass pipe.
Remove the three pump mounting bolts in sequence (middle, top, bottom) and then pull out the water pump and cover. Remove the gasket and two O-rings.

To install:
Replace the two O-rings and gasket with new ones, coat the by-pass O-ring with soapy water and then connect the pump cover to the by-pass pipe. Do not install the nuts yet!
With the pump loosely connected to the pipe, install the pump and tighten the three bolts to 82 inch lbs. (9 Nm), in sequence (top, bottom, middle). Install the two by-pass pipe nuts and tighten them to 78 inch lbs. (9 Nm).
The remainder of installation is the reverse of removal. Tighten each component to specifications.
Disconnect the lower radiator hose at the water inlet.
Disconnect the timing belt from the water pump pulley.
Remove the bolt holding the inlet pipe to the alternator belt adjusting bar and then remove the inlet pipe and O-ring.
Remove the water inlet and thermostat.
Remove the seven bolts and then pry off the water pump. To install:
Scrape any remaining gasket material off the pump mating surface. Apply a 0.08-0.12 inch (2-3mm) bead of sealant to the groove in the pump and then install the pump. Tighten the bolts to 14 ft. lbs. (20 Nm).

The remainder of installation is the reverse of removal. Tighten each component to specifications. Connect the radiator hose and fill the engine with coolant.
Mark the left and right camshaft pulleys with a touch of paint. Using a spanner wrench, remove the bolts to the right and left camshaft pulleys. Separate the pulleys from the engine. Be sure not to mix up the pulleys.
Remove the No. 2 idler pulley by removing the bolt.
Disconnect the three clamps and engine wire from the rear timing belt cover.
Remove the six bolts holding the No. 3 timing belt cover to the engine block.

Remove the bolts and nuts to the extract the water pump.

Raise the engine slightly and remove the water pump and the gasket from the engine.

To install:
Check that the water pump turns smoothly. Also check the air hole for coolant leakage.
Using a new gasket, apply liquid sealer to the gasket, water pump and engine block.
Install the gasket and pump to the engine and install the four bolts and two nuts. Tighten the nuts and bolts to 53 inch lbs. (6 Nm).
The remainder of installation is the reverse of removal. Tighten each component to specifications.
Rear timing belt cover - 74 inch lbs. (9 Nm).
No. 2 idler pulley - 32 ft. lbs. (43 Nm)
Fill the engine coolant. Connect the negative battery cable to the battery and start the engine.
Very easy. You can do this. Just take off the serp belt by pulling down on the tensioner with a 15mm wrench. Then remove the three or four bolts for the water pump pulley. You will need to be under the vehicle for this. Then remove the five or six bolts for water pump. Pull the pump out and install new one in the reverse order. Just slip the belt off the water pump so you don't have to figure reroute the whole thing unless you are replacing it. Also clean the mating service for the pump before installing the new pump with the new gasket. Should take about an hour

Remove the timing belt.
Unfasten the timing belt tensioner bolt and remove the tensioner.
Disconnect the lower radiator hose from the water pump.
Lower the car and disconnect the heater hose from the water pump.
Unfasten the three bolts and one stud from the water pump.
Remove the water pump.

To install:
WARNING
Do not use any abrasive grinding discs to remove gasket material.
Use a plastic manual gasket scraper to remove the gasket residue. Be
careful not to scratch or gouge the aluminum sealing surfaces when
cleaning them.
Clean the gasket surfaces thoroughly until all traces of the old
gasket residue are removed. Inspect the gasket mating surfaces, both
must be clean and flat.
Install a new gasket and the water pump.
Install the water pump bolts and stud to 15-22 ft. lbs. (20-30
Nm).
Connect the heater hose to the pump.
Raise the car and support it with safety stands.
Connect the lower radiator hose to the pump.
Install the timing belt tensioner and tighten the bolt to 15-22
ft. lbs. (20-30 Nm).
Install the timing belt and lower the car.
Fill the cooling system with the proper amount and mixture of
coolant.
Start the engine and check for leaks.
DOHC ENGINE See Figure 9
Disconnect the negative battery cable.
CAUTION

Unfasten the splash shield bolts and remove the shield.
Loosen the water pump pulley retaining bolts, then remove the
drive belt.
Remove the A/C compressor bolts and move the compressor aside.
Unfasten the water pump retainers and remove the pump from the
middle timing belt cover.

To install:
Install the water pump and tighten the retainers to 17 ft. lbs.
(24 Nm).
Place the A/C compressor in position and tighten the mounting
bolts.
Install the drive belt and tighten the water pump pulley bolts.
Install the splash shield and tighten the bolts.
Fill the cooling system with the proper amount and mixture of
coolant.
CAUTION
Never open, service or drain the radiator or cooling system when

Drain the engine cooling system.
Raise and safely support the vehicle.
Remove the lower radiator hose from the water pump.
If the lower radiator hose is hard to reach on the back of the water
pump, remove the hose at the radiator and after the water pump is ready
to be removed, pull the water pump away from the engine block until
there is enough room to remove the hose from the pump.
Lower the vehicle.
Remove the accessory drive belt.
Remove the timing belt covers and the timing belt as outlined in
this Section.
Remove the four water pump retaining bolts.
Remove the water pump.
To install:
Thoroughly clean all sealing surfaces.
Install a new water pump gasket and the water pump onto the
cylinder block.
Tighten the retaining bolts to 12-15 ft. lbs. (16-20 Nm).
Reinstall the timing belt and the timing belt covers as outlined
in this Section.
Reinstall the accessory drive belt.
Raise and safely support the vehicle.
Reinstall the lower radiator hose.
Lower the vehicle.
Fill the engine cooling system.
Reconnect the negative battery cable.
Start the engine and top off the coolant as necessary. Check for
leaks.
2.5L Engine
Before continuing with this procedure, be sure three new water pump
retaining bolts (W701544) are available. Due to their torque-to-yield
design, the bolts stretch and cannot be reused.
Disconnect the negative battery cable.
CAUTION
Never open, service or drain the radiator or cooling system when
hot; serious burns can occur from the steam and hot coolant.
Drain the engine cooling system.
Remove the water pump pulley shield.
Remove the water pump drive belt.
Remove the water pump inlet and outlet hoses from the water pump.
Remove the three water pump to left cylinder head retaining bolts.
Remove the water pump and water pump housing from the vehicle.
Remove the water pump to water pump housing retaining bolts and
separate the water pump from the water pump housing.
To install:
Thoroughly clean all sealing surfaces.
Install the water pump to the water pump housing using a new
gasket and install the retaining bolts. Tighten the retaining bolts to
16-18 ft. lbs. (22-25 Nm).
Position the water pump and water pump housing and install three
new torque-to-yield retaining bolts into the left cylinder head.
Tighten the new retaining bolts to 11-13 ft. lbs. (15-18 Nm), then
rotate the retaining bolts 85-95 degrees.
Reinstall the water pump inlet and outlet hoses to the water pump.
Reinstall the water pump drive belt.
Reinstall the water pump shield.
Fill the engine cooling system.
Reconnect the negative battery cable.
Start the engine and top off the coolant as necessary. Check for
leaks.
3.0 Escapes DO NOT use a tensioner for the water pump belt. If you get a clear look at your water pump, you'll see the pump itself is bolted to a pump housing. The pump housing is bolt to the block using three bolts which differ from the actual water pump bolts. Remove the three bolts from the pump housing to relieve tension on the belt. The cooling system will remain sealed. Change the belt and reinstall the bolts. (The three bolts use washers)
You have to remove the engine mount next to it, then remove the 4 bolts in the pulley Make sure you support the engine with a floor jack, use the jack to raise the engine a few inches on the that end helps getting the pulley bolts out.
Unfortunately, u must remove the timing belt. This is why it is recommended to change the water pump when the timing belt is changed. Here's the procedure : Disconnect neg. battery cable, remove splash shield at wheel well, (after removing wheel to help gain access, turn the engine to align timing marks and set #1 cylinder at top dead center on the COMPRESSION stroke. Once this is done, u can NOT disturb engine or u will have a fun time trying to figure out how the heck to set the timing. Drain anitfreeze, remove timing belt, remove water pump bolts (be aware that bolts may be different lengths, don't mix them up, remove water pump and O ring. Put it back together: install new O ring and water pump, be careful Oring doesn't slip or move out of position, tighten to 9 ft lbs, install timing belt, refill antifreeze, reconnect battery cable, start car, check for leaks, bleed cooling system, replace splash shield.
