This is the alternator problem. It is nor providing good charge at idle and at low rpm. Another sign of it can be whining. Reason is the diod bridge inside the alternator goes bad. But might be external reasons. For that check the serpentine belt, power cables coming from alternator for deposition/rust and battery and alternator for charge (in Autozone store for free). If battery discharged alternator goes bad.
Good Luck

You either have a weak battery or a weak alternator

Hi

Check your alternator belt tension, if its ok, all connections behind alternator are good.

If the problem is still there, a new, or reconditioned alternator, seems the only answer !

Good Luck !

Please give me a Fixya Rating.... I need to be a Guru !

Instrument panel lights to dim in daytime

The dimmer switch only works when the headlights are on, When they are off there is a light sensor on the dash that takes over and adjusts the dash lights as needed. It sounds like yours has gone out.

Have a 2003 Ford Ranger small truck. The headlights will not work. Put bulb in did not work, tried to dim and lights go out. pushing dimmer would not dim.

If both heads lights are out then it's likely a blown fuse. You probably have a fuse block under the hood near the battery. Remove the cover and look for any fuses labeled headlights. You might also a diagram in your manual. IF the fuse is good then look for a relay. Again its usually some where on the fuse block itself.

After jump-starting my van, the panel lights don't come on when the headlights are on. How do I fix this?

this either a fuse that bew or your dimmer switch that makes the lights brighter and dimmer on the dash is turned down all the way if the fuse is good and it's nit turned down all the way then the bulbs are all blown or the dimmer switch is bad

Dodge d150 dim headlights when running and dies

you may have a bad alternator, bad battery, or simply dirty battery terminals.
Clean the battery terminal connections with a battery terminal brush and reinstall. Check to see if that helps your problem.
Usually this is an alternator problem. If the headlights get brighter when you rev the engine, then it's most likely the battery. But if the lights just get dimmer and dimmer, it's most likely the alternator. If the voltage gauge doesn't show proper voltage, 14 or more volts, alternator is probably the fault.

Where is the fuse for the dash lights . the light are bright with key on. Go dull when the headlights are turned on

That is normal. They go bright because during the daytime the outside light is also bright so the lights compensate for the outside brightness by making your dash lights also bright. When you turn your headlights on it assumes it is nighttime and you don't need to have the brightness to see the dash lights so it compensates for this. If you want them to be dimmer, near the light switch there is a roller button to turn your interior lights on just roll that some and it will either make the dash lights brighter or dimmer.

Dash lights go off intermittently

I'm no expert, I recently purchased a 2003 vibe. I noticed the automatic headlight's sensors can be super-sensitive, about an hour hours before dusk they'll kick my headlights on (when the sun is still shining!), or sometimes when I go into an underpass, and then sometimes they'll realize it's light enough and turn themselves off. This would cause your dash lights to go to the 'headlights on' mode and turn the headlamp signal on, the intensity is controlled by the dimmer/dome light control on the left side of the dash. Check to see if the dimmer is down too far, as this could cause the lights to dim when the automatic headlights turn on. It's also possible that the dimmer is not working, thus no power is getting to the dash lights through the dimmer. Try testing it by starting the car in daylight, then manually turn on the headlights, then adjust the dimmer. Like I say, I'm no expert, just guessing because I've noticed it happen similarly on my Vibe, but my dimmer was at half-way, as I like it for night driving. Someday, I'd like to disable the automatic sensors and DRL.
