Question about 2000 Volkswagen Beetle

2000 beetle battery

When my beetle sits for more than a couple of days without being driven the battery dies. When I hook up the jumper cables it sounds like it starts but just as soon as I let off turning the key the car dies. This happened before. Last time I could not get it to jump off and had to call a mechanic. He had trouble and had to just keep trying for 30 min. Finally the car jumped. Now its happened again! And I have tried for hours. Now what?

The battery was replaced after the first time this happened and the battery is only about a month old now.

Hi

Sounds like your battery, have you had it heavy discharge tested ?

Get the alternator charging rate tested if battery tests OK.

Good Luck !

    Hi

Sounds like your ignition switch is playing up, if you say it runs, until you let off the key, something is wrong here.

Do you think that the ignition could possibly still be on with the key out ? which would explain the flat battery ?

Let me know what you think ?

    John.

1997 Pontiac Grand Am Gt has been sitting for almost a yearo to a wreck. It's been started couple times during this time frame. How ever. It's not longer fully starting. It will kinda try to and then die...

You probablly need to charge the battery, if you dont have battery charger you can take battery out and most autopart stores will charge and test it for free... before you do all that, add a little fresh gas, hook jumper cables up and spray a little starter fluid in air intake.

Why my car is dead after sitting for 3 days. when first hooked up jumper cables the interior lights came on then went off and wouldnt even turn over

If your battery is dead after 3 days it's probably getting stuffed or else you left something on. Anyway jump starting should work regardless. How good are your jumper leads? You need a pretty heavy set to start a car not those skinny things you get at super cheap auto stores. Hook them up and start car you're jumping off and run it at a high idle for about 5 min then try and start your car. That should put a base charge into your battery and it should go. If not buy a new battery.

After 2 days the battery dies what is the problem

if the vehicle is being run for two days and the battery goes down, it could be a charging system problem, if the vehicle is not driven in two days and the battery goes down, try having the battery disconnected from the cables while the vehicle sits for two days, if the battery goes down, it is the battery and if the battery holds a good charge , it is an electrical problem.

After jumping a dead battery the car will lose power and die while driving. It will however sit and idle without a problem. I did try testing the alternator by removing the positive lead from the battery...

You never jump a dead battery
That is an unsafe act and could
result in an explosion

You must charge any battery fully,
to start any diagnostic proceedure

You never remove either battery cables,
while a vehicle is running, another practice
that will bite you sooner than later

It sounds as though the battery is not
capable of taking a charge and offers
too much resistance to run the car hooked up

My car wouldn't start after sitting a couple of months. Is it possible that I pulled trash into the fuel injection system. My nephew says that the gas probably evacuated because we had to add gas to get...

It could possible be even that it sat for "a couple of months". The battery could have died. I'm kind of lost as to how you think you "pulled trash into the fuel injection system" and how "the gas probably evacuated". The gas could have "evaporated" due to warmer temperatures and it is fact that it can. As for trash in the fuel injection system I have no idea. Check the battery though. Hook jumper cables up to your battery and scrap the opposite ones together to see if it will spark. Let it sit connected to another car for probably a good 10 to 15 minutes. If it won't start then, the battery is probably completely shot. That's just a guess though.

2000 beetle battery can't hold charge

i think you should take the car to a local parts house and have them to test the charging system . If the voltage regulator has stuck it could be pulling a constant draw on your battery also check at night to make sure that none of your lights are on sometimes the light switches can go bad and cause this to happen such as hood or trunk.Hope this has helped you out some!!

Your alternator charges your battery. No alternator, no battery charge.
