Oil pickup/filter/pump problem with Holden Jackaroo 1993 4x4 V6

To see if there was any oil pressure I took the oil filter off and then noticed it was only dribbling out - not spraying out. I was told it could be the oil pickup which is in the sump but I have noticed I have to remove the motor to get to the sump. Is there any other way I can get around this? Many thanks for your help Gary

The motor will deffinatly have to be pulled. There is not enough room underneath to remove the oil pan.

My Holden statesman 95. The oil light on the dash bord is coming on and off, i know that is the oil pump or a blockage.. what is the best way to fix it?

It may be the oil pressure sensor at fault.
It could also be a sticking oil pressure relief valve.

Before you start replacing expensive items like oil pumps, start with the easiest and cheapest first.

Presumably the engine oil level is ok? and it isn't overdue an oil/filter change?

Your car doesn't have an oil pressure gauge? Knowing what your oil pressure was would be of help. A workshop would be able to check your oil pressure using something similar to what you see in the link below:
***** in oil pressure tester

Check your oil level first.
If the car is due an oil/filter change - do it.
If changing the oil consider using an engine flush:

Then, try changing your oil pressure sensor. You should be able to pick one up at any car shop. It screws into the block and has an electrical connection.

Holden jackaroo petrol 2000 model 3.5 auto

Not until you have done all the necessary checks. Check that the oil is bright cherry red and not tan. Have a pressure test done on the transmission to check for internal faults. Have the fault codes read to check for transmission faults (TCM ) check oil level. Remove the pan and clean out the filter./ If there is band and clutch pack linings in the filter then you may have to have the box overhauled.. If not adjust the bands and clutch packs . After all the checks are done then and only then should you consider a replacement transmission and only from accredited transmission shops

The Oil light came on on my 1996 Mercury Sable I changed the Sending unit but that didn't help so I was told that it may be the oil pump I pulled the oil pan off, and removed the oil pump. I tore

Have you checked if the fault is your oil filter, probably the filter pressure valve inside doesn't keep any pressure? or the other thing is a possibility of the pressure pipes are clogged or semi clogged.

I want to know where the oil drainage plug is on a 1994 Holden jackaroo

I believe the 3.2 is a Honda/Acura engine and not a Isuzu engine. Are you talking about changing the engine oil or the transmission fluid? I ask because you state "the oil drainage plug" but later you mention the Automatic transmission.
As for engine oil plugs, they are almost always found low on the engine oil pan, sometimes facing the front (like my Jag), to the side (like my Ford Ranger) or to the rear like my 90 Acura Legend 2.7L V6 did. Most have a bolt with a washer that should be replaced every time. If it doesn't look like a large hexagonal bolt head it could very well be a rubber plug that is pushed in. Not a good design in my humble opinion. If you change the oil be careful not to do it when the engine is hot as the oil is also quite hot. I believe in doing it when just warm, more drains out. I find it beneficial to drain about a quart out, put the drain plug back in and add a quart of Gunk or Snap engine oil slush, start it (but don't rev the engine & DO NOT DRIVE THE VEHICLE) and let it just idle for 15 minutes. Give it some time to cool then remove the drain plug and let it drain out. Next remove the oil filter. Always ALWAYS pour fresh oil into the new filter a couple of times before screwing it on, and spread a little oil on the little rubber gasket on the filter first. I recommend synthetic oil for any vehicle as it doesn't break down into coke (hard rock-like black stuff) like conventional oil does. Those coke deposits are engine killers. I like Mobile 1 extended fuel economy. Synthetic costs more but lasts longer. If using synthetic were to only extend the life of your engine by two or three years, I consider it well worth the added expense. It should reduce wear in the engine, keep it much cleaner, make it quieter, and give you better mileage because it's slicker (less internal friction).

Just replaced oil pump still have low pressure 14-20 pounds at 2500 rpms

Set your timing when u remove the oil pump it will surley affect the timing on your motor.... do this with a timing light and and adjust timing by rotating the distrubutor.

What does a low oil pressure alarm mean

Means your engine oil pressure is low due to faulty oil pressure sensor which is located on top or the oil filter housing. It could also mean low on engine oil due to a leak in the engine somewhere or past due oil changed. It could also mean a faulty oil pump, weak oil pump, or restricted oil passage due to sludge.

Here is the procedure for testing for oil pressure, which lists the possible causes of the pressure light coming on.

The following can cause low or no oil pressure:
1.Low oil level -- fill to the full mark on the oil level indicator.
2.Incorrect or malfunctioning oil pressure Switch -- replace the oil pressure switch.
3.Incorrect or malfunctioning oil pressure gauge -- replace the oil pressure gauge.
4.Improper oil viscosity or diluted oil Install oil of proper viscosity for expected temperature.Install new oil if it is diluted.
5.The oil pump is worn or dirty -- clean or replace the oil pump.

6.The oil filter is plugged -- replace the oil filter.

7.The oil pickup screen is loose or plugged -- replace the oil pickup screen.

8.A hole in the oil pickup tube -- replace the oil pickup tube.

9.Excessive bearing clearance -- replace the bearings.
Cracked, porous, or plugged oil galleries -- repair or replace the engine block.
10.The gallery plugs are missing or improperly installed -- install or repair as necessary.

11.The pressure regulator valve is stuck.Check the pressure regulator valve for sticking in the bore.Check the bore for scoring and burrs.
12.The camshaft is worn or poorly machined -- replace the camshaft.

13.Worn valve guides -- repair as needed.

If the vehicle has low oil pressure perform the following tests.
Check the oil level.
Raise the vehicle and remove the oil filter.

Start the engine and check the overall oil pressure, the oil pressure switch, and for noisy lifters.
The engine should be at operating temperature before checking the oil pressure. The oil pressure should be approximately 414 kPa (60 psi) at 1,850 RPM using 5W-30 engine oil.

If adequate oil pressure is indicated, check the oil pressure switch.

If a low reading is indicated, press the valve on the tester base to isolate the oil pump and/or its components from the lubricating system. An adequate reading at this time indicates a good pump and the previous low pressure was due to worn bearings, etc. A low reading while pressing the valve would indicate a faulty pump.

Without the tools to test the pressure, about all I might suggest is trying another oil filter brand, to see if you can get more pressure. It sounds like the sensor is working properly. Please let me know what you find out. Keep me posted and be glad to help you get your Montana running 100%. please rate. Oil pressure test kit J 25078-c is needed to test the oil pressure and can be loaned out in most auto parts store like Auto Zone or Parts Source.
