Hi fro uk when you reassembled brake shoes? did you notice the tubular bar just below b/cylinder? it fits between the two shoes and has a toothed wheel on the treaded side(l/h) this is the auto adjuster ie as tooth wheel is rotated it extends the treaded side thus adjusting shoes to drum o/k? this is normally done auto by the small lever below but when fitting new shoes you must adjust this rod with tooth wheel and keep trying drum fitting when you can fit drum /just? fit and press brake to centralise shoes to drum then adjust again if req'd so that drum fits and rotates withh shoes not binding ?? do both sides THENyou willdrums fitted you will feel b/pedal is improved ie less travel on braking ? SO FIRST THING YOU HAVE TO DO IS SLACKEN OFF H/BRAKE CABLE ADJUSTMENT /SLACK ? then proceed with the above instruction afterwards if you do as above then you pull h/brake up one notch ? then adust slack from cable to light tension release h/brake and ensure wheels rotate freely when you apply h/brake it should hold on approx four//five notch ? hope this helps

How do i replace my hand brake cable on my ford falcon XH ute

wait a bit ....is it rear disc or rear drums on that ute

will assume its under dash hand brake pull lever tyoe

the disc setup may have single cables for each rear
rear disk brake cable is approx $ 150

if your XH it is close to the XE and XF set up drums
a complete one line loop cable outer and inner
with plastic grommets along the back chassis rail ( they break )
so the one inner cable works both rear handbrake shoes

hand brake cable is a shorty

undo the adjustment thread
just below the hand brake cable point up somewhere above the gearbox
(drums )
after new cable fitted
drums are adjusted with the old school way with the handbrake adjuster tool
handbrake cable adjusted

then the handbrake handle when pulled out to hold needs14 plus clicks
comes out a long way for some weird reason
on drums
if cable adjustment is done wrong onrear drums the handbrake cable will come loose in the drum as you drive along

Honda Jazz 2007 1.4 rear pads and discs replaced no hold on handbrake still. Adjusted handbrake but still nothing could this mean I need new calibers? Thanks for the previous answers but there is no

Callipers are what hold the pads and the cylinders on the car. They have nothing to do with your problem. However they are attached by 2 bolts that are fixed to the axle housing mount. These bolts will rust up and not allow the callipers to move and centralize on the disc rotor. If you look at the callipers you will see 2 bolts that have what looks like a rubber seal under the head These are the bolts . Although you have adjusted the hand brake, if you have shoes inside the hub of the disc rotor they will have to be adjusted first and not just the lever.

How do I fixed if my car hand brake stuck 2001 toyota coralla manual

There are several things that can make a hand brake stick on. It possible the cable attached to the leaver has come off it guide. There is a cable running from each rear wheel to the handbrake leaver , a inner cable running through a outer housing , chick that the inner cable is free to move back and forward . if all the cables are free to slide adjust the rear brakes and hand brake as instructions . Slacken off the hand brake cable adjustment. Jack up the rear wheals and adjust the brake shoes till the brakes lock, then back off till the wheels are free to turn. Then pull the hand brake leaver on two clicks and adjust the hand brake cable till the rear wheels just start to bind, release the hand brake leaver and check the wheels are free to turn.

First make sure the brake shoe linings are ok and the shoe adjusters are free . slacken off the handbrake cable then adjust brake shoes ,then pull handbrake leaver on three clicks tighten cable to feel a slight drag at the wheels, release brake leaver and check wheels are free to turn.

Change handbrake cable

Hi Steve, The problem sounds as if it is the park brake adjustment or wear on the cable, (which may be binding inside the outer cover. This can be caused by a frayed inner cable and the ends catching). Try adjustment first and then only replacement of the cable. I have not carried out the job on a vehicle of this type, but replacement should be straightforward and logical. I'm fairly sure it will mean the removal of the center consul and disassembly of the brake activation levers on the parking brake shoes. Take some photographs or make some sketches before disassembling so you know how to re assemble. Regards John

Does a 1995 bmw 3series have handbrake shoes situated under the hub

The handbrake shoes are in the drum. They use a dual rear brake system. The discs are operated by the pedal and the handbrake operates the shoes in the drum.

What do you mean "under" the hub?

Adjusting the emerg brake is difficult. You have to adjust the brakes in the drum first, then the cable.

Replace rear brakes adjust handbrake

The hand brake hardly ever needs ajusting. See your hand brake mechanincly spreads your rear brake shose inside the drum. Therefore just replace your rear shoes and make sure there ajusted right and you should have no more problems with that part of your car. PS make sure you put some 3M paste on the contact points on your backing plate to avoid a squeak in the near future.
