smoke is white or black.?
black is flooding and misfire.
White 1, is oil, smell like burnt oil, and take bloody for ever to clear.
White 2, is steam and is normal, but not so if smells like Antifreeze sick sweet smell and dissipates fast like moms tea pot steam.

What year, make and model car is this? Most likely, black smoke is usually a carburator problem. If it's fuel injected, black smoke can be caused by 1) leaking or faulty fuel injecters, 2) faulty choke, 3)dirty air filter or 4) faulty distributor cap and/or rotor. Hope this helps.
If your caddy has the original trans, although it only has 50k on it,it is 15 years old
It will most likely need to be rebuilt
I used to own a trans shop years ago.
If you got 100,000 straight through in 5 years, you did good.
I did a lot of fairly new caddy trans, for a couple dealerships.
Sounds like you have to much gas going thru the throttle body. When you put your foot on the gas it opens the airway and lets air and no gas. The black smoke is unburned gas. Replace the throttle body and you should be good to go. It could be the fuel sensor also, telling the pump the wrong info.
