The heat works great, but only for about 5 minutes. I replaced the heater core, heater water valve, hoses, coolant, and hose clamps. Still the heater will only run for 5 or so minutes then the air stops completely. no hot air, no cold air, i can't get any air to move at all. the digital read out works and responds, i can even hear the little air diverters moving when i change from def. to HI, but no air. any suggestions? could the heater switch be overheating or something? help please.

Either your heater blend door is failing, your core is plugged, or you have poor coolant circulation. checking the temp of both heater hoses will rule out the core usually. (Warm engine, heater ON, both hoses should be HOT and near same temperature). If 1 hose is hot and the other cold, your core may be plugged. If both hoses are HOT, and still no heat inside, your heater box is likely not directing the warm air properly on the interior. If neither hose is hot or warm, and heater is ON, your heater control valve should be checked to make sure it is flowing coolant to the heater.
If all THAT seems to pass (heater valve definitely open) an d still low or not heat inside and both hoses the same, your water pump may not be making enough flow to feed the engine and the heater. Typically if this is the problem, holding the engineat high rev (3000+) for 5-10 minutes will cause the heater to warm up mostly, and then dropping the RPM to 1000 or 1500 you will feel it cool off rapidly. If that is the case, you will need cooling system repairs.
don't know this van specifically, but some things to check, make sure cabin filter is replaced or clean, you didn't say if the blower itself works, if not, correct or replace. Check the hoses going to the heater core, if hot water is flowing thru the core, both hoses should be hot. Check the heater controls to make sure doors in the system are opening closing as they should, you may just be drawing in cold air and not going thru the heater core.
I had this exact problem. Suspect a clogged heater core and you will probably have to replace it. Make sure you have the valve that opens the heater that works. You can remove it and see if it works. The valve is a vacuum valve that is connected within 10 inches of the 2 firewall heater hoses.
If the valve opens and stay opens and passes water well then disconnect the output of the heater and verify the that water flows well and you may be ok with the heater core being ok. I know you do not like to hear but with all these tests, you should replace the heater core in the cab. It is a pain to remove but doable.
now there are several thing you need to check( since you know the blower and vents are working) start the jeep. let it warm up, sorry to do this to you, but turn on the heater. under the hood are two hoses going to the heater core, by the blower. after the jeep has warmed up, and heater running for about 2 minutes, check to see if either hose got warm or hot. If yes, bad heater core. if no, then the control valve that allows hot coolant to the heater core is bad. you can trace it if you follow the line to the engine, it is connected to a valve, and valve needs to be replaced( you can get it at the auto parts store). hope this helps you
UNHOOK BOTH HEATER HOSES AND FLUSH OUT HEATER CORE
DO IT FOWARD AND BACK FLUSH / COVER DIST. CAP OR YOU WILL
FILL IT WITH WATER / IF IT CLEARS OUT HOOK HOSES BACK UP AND
BLEED AIR OUT OF SYSTEM / IF IT DOES'T CLEAR OUT HEATER CORE
WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED (DASH COMES OUT TO DO HEATER CORE)
Check the heater hoses,if they are both getting warm,then there is a temp door not opening inside the blower box,It may be cable driven on this model,just look and see,you can move it manualy with your hand to get the heat.
It sounds like the heater coil needs flushing out or replacing or the heater valve. Look on the engine firewall and make sure the heater valve is opening. If not open it manually and check the heat level. If that produced heat check the condition of the heater vale cable (or vaccum hose).
I had the same problem and remedied it by disconnecting the heater core at the firewall (you have to remove the plastic shield by the windshield to access) and filling the core with radiator flush. I let it sit for 4-5 hours and then flushed the core with water from my garden hose. To make the connection, I cut a rubber washing machine supply hose, which fit inside the tubes to the heater core.
Once flushed, I added "Water Wetter" to remove any air bubbles from the system. heat now works great.
BTW - both the dealer and and independent said I needed to replace the heater core, at a cost of $1500. Glad I tried this first! Good luck!
The hoses from your heater core should be very hot to the touch. Check the hoses going to the core from the water pump. It should be very hot. The return hose should also be very hot. Now check the hoses going to the core. If they are not the same temp, then your heater control valve is not working correctly or the vacuum is not working. At any rate, locate the vacuum line going to the heater valve. Remove the silver bar on the valve from the plastic plunger arm. You will have heat all the time now if it was only a vacuum problem. You can fix it later when it's warmer out. BTW a 200* thermostat will make your heater even hotter.
