Question about 1999 Jaguar XJ

1 Answer

Unstable suspension 2002 xjr 100, when I'm driving at speeds of 120km/h or more the vehicle seems to be very unstable, very noticeable when the pavement becomes somewhat uneven I can feel the car sway from the passenger front to the driver rear, almost like the suspension is not performing properly. I had all the shocks replaced by a jag dealer. Any info would be appreciated. I'm not sure if this is normal for these cars since I've never road tested another xjr. Thanx.

The tires are Michelin Pilot ps2 they are the same size as the originals, they are fairly new maybe 4000km, I changed them because the pirrelli's dont last. I'm not sure of the pressure that I'm running but I can check that. I will also look into the subframe bushes. Thanks for the suggestions!

I need to ask this sorry, but are you running the recommended tire size, and are you running them at vehicle recommended pressure? What is vehicle manufacturers recommended pressures, and what does it say on the side of your tires as max. pressure (cold) What make of tire are they?

This is dangerous, you shoud have all the subframe bushes checkedby a garage asap also get your tyres checked! subframe buses wear out and the subframe moves left and right, at speed it is more noticeable hope this helps

roughly if you are doing 3000rpm you will be doing approx. 100 klms/hr or 60 mph at 120km/hr you would be around 3200rpms.; Remember this will be in o/drive or 5th

My car vibrate at 100-120km/hr i have bought new tires and done the wheel balncing but it still vibrate and whenever i tried to apply the break at this speed it vibrate serously. it's a 2001 mazda mpv

This is due to poor settings of the wheel bearings,tyres,- check balancing once again, wheel drums/ brake pads, suspension , joints and steering.
In all the entire front suspension must be checked, the WHELL ALIGNMENT must be checked with precision and each of the wheels must be checked for damage on hub, axle or chassis.

What happens if the air suspension switch is turned off

If nothing is leaking the air suspension will stay in its current position. The switch is primarily used when your vehicle is service on a non drive ion rack. Failure to turn off the air ride before raising the vehicle will cause the air ride to vent. When the vehicle is lowered the rear of the vehicle will be in the fully lowered position.

When you drive between 100-120km/hr the vibration get very bad but when you drive after 120km/hr

If the vibration is related to speed, and goes away at different speeds higher and lower, it is likely to be a wheel balance problem. Have the wheels balanced at a tyre shop. If it is under braking only, the brake discs are warped.

The check suspension light came on. I have noticed that the vehicle is sitting uneven after the airbags deflate once the vehicle is turned off. Lately the vehicle also seems to not have an airbag inflating...

Definitely sounds like there is a leak in your air suspension somewhere. I'd have a local shop check it out. There is a switch for the air suspension either underneath the glovebox right hand side of firewall. or in the back of the vehicle behind the left panel. it is labeled suspension
