Question about 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee
I am hearing a rattling noise under the hood. It almost sounds like its near the fan & belt routing system. I don't want to go somewhere to have it looked at to pay an arm and a leg for (obviously, who does?!) however, I am doing some extensive research online to learn about everything under my hood and how it's all interconnected. Does anyone know why this noise would be coming almost directly from the belt, fan area?
Additionally, in the past year of driving the vehicle, after making long road trips, it starts to make a jerking motion, as if im braking, then releasing. The car slows itself down almost as if it will eventually cut off. This is scary because it does it about 60mph on a highway. It does it every so often. I wonder if this is all related somehow?? Please help, someone!!
I think the noise you are hearing is either the waterpump, tennsioner polly,or idler polly, do you see any coolant on the ground under front of car? that would be an indication water pump is bad and needs replaced, the polleys are part of the belt routing system, one is spring loaded and the other is bolted fast. the belt is called serpenteen, its one continues belt that runs off the crank polly to alt. water pump, power steering pump and the 2 pollys i talked about. Now the 2 pollys have bearings in them my guess is one or both are bad and need replaced. I have heard that this is a common thing to go bad on jeeps. Now the jerking problem that could be as simple as a fuel filter when was the last time it was change? if its been a while change it you might be surprised. If it still jerks after filter chg. might be time for a fuel pressure test. well thats the best i can do for you good luck. OLD SCHOOL.

Could be the a/c compressor. The compressor went up on my jeep and it made horrible sounds. Hold a kindlin stick or large screwdriver to the compressor with engine running and put your ear to the other end. You will be able to tell if this is the problem. Dont get to close to the belt
