1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee Makes Rattling Noise!

I am hearing a rattling noise under the hood. It almost sounds like its near the fan & belt routing system. I don't want to go somewhere to have it looked at to pay an arm and a leg for (obviously, who does?!) however, I am doing some extensive research online to learn about everything under my hood and how it's all interconnected. Does anyone know why this noise would be coming almost directly from the belt, fan area?

Additionally, in the past year of driving the vehicle, after making long road trips, it starts to make a jerking motion, as if im braking, then releasing. The car slows itself down almost as if it will eventually cut off. This is scary because it does it about 60mph on a highway. It does it every so often. I wonder if this is all related somehow?? Please help, someone!!

High Pitched noise, like a rattle or a whine. Sounds like metal clanking together.......It's noticeably loud, inside and outside of the car.

Thanks for your help! I initially thought about fuel Filter/injector replacement when the car first started jerking. Haven't had one put on recently, but I am more concerned with the loud clanking noise.......thanks for your help, i'll get under the hood in the morning!

I think the noise you are hearing is either the waterpump, tennsioner polly,or idler polly, do you see any coolant on the ground under front of car? that would be an indication water pump is bad and needs replaced, the polleys are part of the belt routing system, one is spring loaded and the other is bolted fast. the belt is called serpenteen, its one continues belt that runs off the crank polly to alt. water pump, power steering pump and the 2 pollys i talked about. Now the 2 pollys have bearings in them my guess is one or both are bad and need replaced. I have heard that this is a common thing to go bad on jeeps. Now the jerking problem that could be as simple as a fuel filter when was the last time it was change? if its been a while change it you might be surprised. If it still jerks after filter chg. might be time for a fuel pressure test. well thats the best i can do for you good luck. OLD SCHOOL.

Could be the a/c compressor. The compressor went up on my jeep and it made horrible sounds. Hold a kindlin stick or large screwdriver to the compressor with engine running and put your ear to the other end. You will be able to tell if this is the problem. Dont get to close to the belt

Noise coming from under transmission

Without hearing it, have you checked your Catalytic converter which is close to the transmission and can come loose basically rot from the inside and start rattling.

Rattling from upper front of engine and coolant loss runs rough

you have over heated the engine and the noise may be from ring failure . It may be from detonation from the fuel detonation from an extremely hot chamber. Have a compression test done to determine internal damage _--gasket and cracked head--. Have the coolant system pressure tested to check for leakage

My jeep is making a rattling noise in the front by the grill. What could this be? Someone said it might be my blower?

It could be something as simple as the fan blades rubbing up against the fan shroud or it could be the idler pulley bearings going bad and making a distinct rattling sound. I've seen them rattle till they break off, releasing the engine belts and stranding the vehicle. Have them checked out to see if they have bearing play, are worn and maybe need replacing.

1996 Jeep grand cherokee limited rattling under truck

Would you be more specific. My first guess would be that either the heat-shield on the CAT or the platinum inside the CAT is broken and/or loose.
When do you hear this noise. let me know.

I have a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited that is making a rattling/ticking noise under the hood and I cannot figure out what it is! We did an oil change and added Rislone, it quieted it some but not...

how many miles on it,sounds like lifter noise which is normal for high mileage jeeps, but if you have over 140k it is not a good idea to run synthetic oils as they are thinner than conv oil and it might start to consume oil.
