When I change out plugs, wires, cap, rotor, fuel filter, and air filter it still stutters on highway but less violently."cleaner" if you will.It seems to me that the whole engine misses instead of only one cylinder. It doesn't feel like transmission slippage or anything I've had a couple of worn ones in my days.I was hoping it was a nationwide problem and maybe I could get lucky but it's not so now I'm googling any car with those symptoms.I did notice last night when I took the conn. off of the throttle position sensor that the contacts were filthy.I cleaned them and my wife said it didn't do it this morning but the true test will be on her way home today. We'll see.If you have any ideas or a direction to point I would greatly appreciate it very much.Thank you.

Hello! when you say you checked the MAP sensor what do you mean? Did you take voltage readings at idle ? A vacuum leak is the likely culprit, especially to the MAP...The minor shake at idle being the major clue...Send a comment...guru..saailer
I would change the fuel filter, and have your fuel pressure checked for a possible low pressure problem. If that is alright, consider a tune-up with new plugs, possibly new plug wires, distributor cap, and rotor. Also, check your air filter. Keep the old ones running! Makes my day.
It could be the fuel filter. If it smells a little gassy at the exhaust, and hasn't been tuned up for a long time, you may have to do that also. It may be due for a complete tune up (distributor cap, rotor, plugs, plug wires, fuel filter, air filter, pcv valve) and oil and filter change. Be sure and check all vacuum hoses under the hood to see if one is off, broken, cracked or loose at a connector.
You should also change the fuel filter park plugs plug wires distributor rotor and cap and change the air filter.Put a bottle of injector cleaner in the fuel tank also.If you have more question write back .Thankyou
I would also change the igntition coil if you have not done that already. Have you changed the fuel filter? I would change the fuel filter, if you have a clogged filter thenit may run good at idle and less load conditions but when you call for more fuel during hard excelleration or at highway speeds the engine will not get enough and it will lean fire and buck and miss.
I would look at the fuel delivery system. Change the fuel filter if it hasn't been done lately. Also get the fuel pressure checked. I don't have the specs but it could be that your fuel pump is getting worn and occasionally has trouble pumping enough fuel to the carb. It's also possible that your carb may need to be overhauled. They do wear and get build up in the pasages over time. Also check to see if your warm air valve in the air cleaner is working. It is possible that your carb is icing up in the cold weather and it is more likely to happen at highway speed.
If you need to get the carb overhauled take it to a shop that specializes in this type of work. You will be glad you did when you get it back.
Hope this helps.
Sounds like misfire. Change spark plugs, wires, cap, rotor , fuel and air filters. Check for oil in spark plug holes. if oil found change valve cover gasket spark plug orings. they can leak oil into spark plug holes and cause misfire.
You really need to hook up your vehicle to a computer or scanner to check for codes. You may have faulty plugs & or wires, How is your fuel pressure? When is the last time that you changed your fuel filter? Is your touque converter lockup in your transmission slipping in & out ? All of these inquirees need to be checked, It is very hard to help without having your car to diagnose. i need more info...
