2003 accord front end shimmy and wander over 60 mph after installing 17" wheels and tires

Well I had the tires rebalanced and alignment done, a little better but still there. I was wondering if the struts might be starting to go bad since it only happens when I go over 60 mph.

SOURCE: tire and steering wheel,

Hi there are a few possible causes
1. The wheel itself could be buckled
2. The tyre could have gone out of shape(sometimes the steel cords break or shift inside the tyre)
3.Wheels out of balance
4.tracking way out
I think if you jack each front wheel up and spin each wheel by hand i think you will see a if its a bad tyre or wheel
So good luck with that

SOURCE: 2003 Honda Accord 2.4 VTEC, vibration during acceration

I just replaced both cv axels one solved 80% of the problem and the other solved the rest. I wasted alot of time and money on new tires, balancing 3 times and an alignment. I should have just taken it to the transmission shop that I trust.

SOURCE: My 2001 Honda shimmies at low speed too

my vote is ply spliting. Look for out of true tire at the tread as sighted across the tread with the tire rotating..... Raise car, put on safe jack stands, and roll the tire. The trick is to observe the tread...Look across the tread to a reference point on the other side. the tire should rotate and be true.

When plies split, there is an uneven or high spot during the above test.

The drift is commonly caused by insistance to cross rotate tires, just not a good idea as pulling often occurs and then cannot be stopped.

I am an admitted addict, but put on Michelin tires and you will be totally happy. The price is seriously more than worth it. Those tires work.

SOURCE: vibration at 60 mph

The first thing to have checked is the wheel balance, if they are good then you need the brake system and wheel bearings checked. Please let me know if this does not help as there are a few more specific problems that could cause vibration.

Front end shimmys when accelerating and under a load when reaching 35 to 55 mph???

Start by driving the car very slow down a flat road. If the sterring wheel wobbles back and forth do this. If you know which side has the worst shimmy jack the front wheels off the ground so you can rotate each tire freely. Have another person with you for four eyes are better than two for this proceedure. One will rote each front tire slowly looking for a buldge in the tire. If you do see a buldge in the side wall or on the tread area which sticks out that is cqaused by a broken belt in the tire. That will cause a shimmy as you drive.

Car shimmies at 60 mph

Hello. Most likely you have an out of balance or out of round tire. A simple way to check tire balance - if the shimmy is present at one speed and not present at another speed, then you most likely have a tire out of balance [sometimes the tire balancing weight[s] can fall off. An out of round tire or bent rim usually shimmies at all speeds and replacement of the tire or the wheel is the only fix.
Begin by driving to a reputable tire store and have them check your tires, a free service in most instances. IF it is not a tire, it could be that you need a front end aligmnent.

At 60 mph, front-end shimmy/shake

There are a lot of things that can cause it to shimmey, and there is not enought room here to explane it all. My advise to you is to take it to a frontend alinement shop and have it chk. out, could be serious.

I have front end vibration that is not caused by alignment. New tires on all four wheels but still have alot of front end vibration. Car is a 2004 Hyundai Tiburon. this information is helpful but not...

Hope I can help...but you have conflicting symptoms. IE... front end vibration but no shimmy in steering wheel?
Let me tell you this: If you feel the vibration when cruising(no brake & not accellerating) @ 60-70 mph; then 95% of the time it is in the tire/wheel/balance combination. (I know you said they were new but could still be out-of-round)

Front end shimmey on 2004 Maxima SE

It is possible that one of your new tires has what is called a slipped belt which is basically a faulty tire.

If they were able to successfully perform the front end alignment you can almost be sure that all of your ball joints, tie rod ends etc are ok as these really don't attribute to "shimmying" felt in the steering wheel.

The are several common causes of shaking felt in the steering wheel:
1. Out of balance wheel/tire combo
2. Slipped belt in a tire
3. Bent wheel

Your shop should be able to pinpoint the cause easily.

Take your car back to the shop that replaced your tires and tell them what you are experiencing. They can check your new tires again to make sure the belt on them did not slip.
