Backfire throgh the throtlle body

My 1993 4.3 is doing the same thing I've chaged fuel filter, plugs, wires, rotor and distr. cap. to no avail. Today someone is putting it on the timing lamp but I don't think this is a timing problem...HHHHeeelp

This is either

  1. The timing jumped or is improperly adjusted.
  2. The intake valve is stuck open, bent,or burnt.
Please rate this a fixya.

change the fuel filter then have the fuel pressure and volume tested with a gage and compare to spec when the motor is cold(first started up).you could have a weak fuel pump when cold.also have the computer scanned to see what the readings are when cold something may show up on the readings but not set a code.

Wont start when its cold and hesitates when u get on the gas . misses and backfires and sputters.

Have you changed your fuel filter lately? It is a cheap and easy place to start. If that doesn't make a difference I would check your fuel pressure with a fuel pressure gauge. You may have a weak fuel pump. When was the last time you tuned it up. Check your distributor cap and rotor, plugs, and plug wires. You may have a EGR valve that is sticking open. Check for a vacuum leak around the throttle body and intake manifold.

5 years ago for cap & rotor???? It sounds like it's in dire need of a complete tune up - plugs. wires, cap, rotor, all fluids & filters ESPECIALLY fuel filter. I'd start there and run a good fuel system cleaner through it. Do your tune ups more frequently like every 30K - not wait 5 years!

Camry SEI MODEL 1993

The first thing that I would do would be to have the throttle body/throttle valve cleaned, it's probably dirty. The second thing that I would do would be have an induction cleaning done. Third, I would replace the ignition wires (if they are over 3 years old) distributor cap, rotor & coil, and finally, have the auto trans power flushed. These are maintenance items that many people overlook. At the very least, change the ignition wires, cap & rotor, and make SURE that you have genuine Toyota plugs in your engine. Non-Toyota plugs cause issues at times. I'm pretty sure that this will fix you up.
