2002 Mazda tribute speedometer does not work

Check your speed sensor in the driver side rear brake/rotor housing. Usually there is only one. Not certain if driver side or passenger side but I know it rear and this is one of the main causes for defective speedometer failure. You should have a check engine light one also.

Where is the vehicle speed sensor located???

I have a '97 Plymouth Voyager 3.0L with 31te auto trans. The vehicle speed sensor is on the lower back side of the engine/trans housing. It's best if you have a lift or jack up the passenger side front tire. When you get under the engine, you should see it through the undercarriage and mid to passenger side of the vehicle on or near the trans-axle housing. Hope that helps.

My speedometer started intermittently going erratic and at the same time my car would run rough. Finally, the check engine light code PO500 surfaced. Replaced the vehicle speed sensor and it fixed the issue. I could not find the location of the vehicle speed sensor online or in my repair manual, so I thought I would post this to help those that needed to know after I found out. Good luck!

Speedometer and taq not working. and abs light came on at same time for a 1999 ford windstar 3.0. all stoped working and the abs light came on at same time.

If your speedometer is not working, that means your Vehicle Speed Sensor or VSS for short, needs to be replaced. The ABS light means your ABS sensors need to be replaced. There are 4 ABS sensors: Front driver's side, Rear driver's side, Front passengers side, and Rear passenger's side. Once you replace your VSS, it will start communicating with your transmission again, and the speedometer will kick in. Hope this helps.

Where is speed sensor

The speed sensor is on the passenger side top of the transmission.remove the passenger side tire and then remove the passenger side motor mount. It's right on top of the transmission and the 10mm bolt is on the drivers side...so it is a little tricky to get to! You take the bolt out and pull the old one out...and put the new one in and reverse the process! it's time consuming but...thats the easiest way I could find to do it! Hope this helps anyone else that has to replace this! Remember that there is one nut (10mm) that needs to be removed before the sensor will pull out. The sensor might (should) have a silver heatshield around it, so it might blend in with the surroundings.
