How do you replace battery in 99 ford taurus?

  • kennnao May 11, 2010

I had a locksmith come and open door, apparently if I had used the key I left in ignition (master key)
it would have opened door. Then was able to reconnect battery to and take to emissions which still failed. Taurus still has same report (not ready) despite being driven over 100 miles. getting very frustrated

You have created the emission failure by disconnecting the battery, your car has what is called OBD 2 electronic engine/emission control system, this system tests each system on the car as u drive and if it finds a problem has occurred more than 3 times in one complete drive cycle (about 20 miles of mixed driving and idleing) it turns on the amber engine light, if the system has not had time to test all the systems it will report not ready when it is tested, this is to keep cars with emission failures from passing smog tests, as fr as the other problem u mentioned u triggered the anti-theft system by disconnecting the battery. This info is provided to inform u of what caused the problem and how it was triggered, a trip to the Ford dealer will be required to correct these problems.

Sounds like the keyless entry system is on the fritz. You will probably have to get a new brain for the keyless entry system.

Simple solution - your tbird has a mechanical trunk lock behind your driver seat on the face of the package shelf. Just use your key to open it.

SOURCE: on-board computer not ready for emission

The car has not been driven enough to make the computer ready for emissions testing. you will need to complete a certain drive cycle for each emissions component to be tested by the computer. it is a variation of highway and non highway driving. you may need to go to a shop and have the computer read to see which component is not ready. It may be faulty

SOURCE: on-board computer not ready for emission

This is the biggest flaw in emissions testing. It takes 4 tanks of fuel and 1000 miles of wasteful driving to reset the computer on the FORD TAURUS (I've got a 2000). So much for pollution control!

Battery was out of 99 ford taurus for 2 month now cant get reading from obd told to drive car 4/5 days how many mile do i need to dive car to reset obd for emission test

It has nothing to do with Miles and EVERYTHING to do with Drive Cycles.. There are certain things that must be tested. Within the first 10 miles, generally speaking you are going to complete the Drive Cycle requirements for ALL the tests except for 2-3. The EVAP/ O2 normally the last ones to get cleared.

Your Vehicle is a 1999 which means that you can pass the I/M test with 2 lights "NOT READY". The EVAP is going to take longer than a few miles, you must fill up your car with fuel above the 3/4 mark and then it has to go below I believe it is 1/2.

But if there are 2 Not Ready's... it will pass

2003 ford taurus security flashes theft then it

The security systems pass lock is disabling the vehicle. This usually happens when the ignition switch does not recognize the ignition key and/or a defective fob or the battery in the fob needs to be replaced. If you ignition key is too worn. This could possibly be your problem

I have a 99 Ford escort zx2 and the enigne quit while is was driv

This is a common problem for a crankshaft sensor failure. When it fails, the engine can not start since the ECM doesn't know the proper position of the crankshaft to give ignition according to TDC (top dead Center). Therefore it doesn't matter how strong your battery is, it won't fire. The fire is only happens when an ignition happens at the highest compression point when a piston is at top and this is reported by the crankshaft sensor. Have this checked out and replaced. Good luck.
