Question about 1986 Lincoln Town Car
Put in new radio, had problems, probably a short b/c the battery ran down quickly. put old radio back in, charged battery, all the electronics seem to work again but at autozone was told my altinator is not charging my battery, or is barely giving a charge. is there a short somewhere? where is the first place to look? melted wires possibly? could it just be a coincedence that i have a bad altinator?
I would say that this may well be a coincidence. The alternator had its own circuitry in it to regulate its output wich, i suspect, is the problem...the good news is that many ap stores can test an alternator on site so you know for sure before spending your money; better yet bring it to a real expert- and auto electric shop- the rebuild alternators and electric motors on site as well as test and diagnose the alternator for you.
