Question about 1985 Chevrolet Chevy

1 Answer

I'm in the process of buying a 1984 Chevy S 10 with the small 6 cylinder. It won't pass smog. It seems to be starving for fuel upon acceleration. It does not seem to be running rich at any time during RPM increase. All smog components are there. The vacume lines are all there, albeit old

If you add 3oz of acetone per 10gal of fuel if the readings were close to passing it should get you there, BUT you will have to test components to find what is malfunctioning. Could be anything from incorrect timing to (name something). There's no magic fixs.

The most cheapest solutions are as follows:
- Check for external coolant leakages, repair if any.
- Re-torque the cylinder head bolts.
- Replace engine oil.
- Interpret the fuel trims.
- Check exhaust system.

Engine light alarm, did not pass smog?

dependent upon your state restrictions it needs to be either fixed or taken through a waiver process. in most any state that does smogs anything after 1996 with an engine light on will fail smog because it only comes on to warn you of an emissions related issue.
I would suggest having it diagnosed at the nearest 2G smog certified shop...

Im trying to find out where the fuel pump is on a 1984 chevy camaro with the 2.8 6 cylinder engine

It is inside the fuel tank. To replace it you will need to remove the tank as the fuel pump access is from the top of the tank. If your going to replace it yourself I would recommend buying a manual from you local parts store.

1984 ford bronco5.0 auto trans california emissions vehicle hesitates on acceleration it has a rebiult carb on ot and it just passed smog but it seems over all running lean computer seems to be working ok...

check the timing with timing light.. also if you have alot of miles on it, the timing chain may be worn out..take the dist cap off..use socket on crankshaft, turn to left till rotor turn, then slowly turn to the right, if you move it alot before rotor turns the chain is worn out

Rough idle, Car shakes, sputters and misfires upon acceleration

It sounds like you may have a problem feeding the fuel to your engine, I had the same problem with my 89 RS. All the 1989 model's fuel systems were recalled. I think you may need a new fuel pump. The fuel pump is located inside the gas tank in the rear of the car right under the rear axle. The fuel pump itself isn't too expensive, but with other small parts such as the electrical harness upgrade and fuel filter and the labor you should be looking somewhere in the $500 range. I hope this helps.
