Check your power steering fluid.
if noises come from your power steering, there could be a possibility that your power steering has gone bad and may need to be replaced.

Wont start. it has power - it appears the steering wheel wont lock. is there some safety feature that prevents the van from starting if the steering wheel isn't locked? can I fix this myself?

ON some cars you have to have it in neutral with the foot on the brake before it will start. On others you will also need the hand/emergency brake on as well.. Check the owners hand book for starting procedures.

Steering wheel locked how to unlock

HI,
is the vehicle on a full steerring lock left or right?
Apply the parking brake, Trans in P / N.
Insert the ign key.
Place one hand on the rim of the steering wheel and "rock" the wheel as you attempt to turn the ign key. You will feel the pressure against the steering wheel, keep "rocking" it and it should unlock as you work the ign lock.

Good luck.

My Key will not turn it recognizes the key but the ignition wont turn

some times the steering wheel can cause this due to the lock for steer wheel, if you put key in and gently try to turn it then with other hand rock steering wheel the key should turn when you release the pressure on steer wheel lock. if that does not work look at key is it worn out ,try spare key?

Key wont turn

Many times when the vehicle gets shut off and the wheel is cut too hard to the right or left this will happen....check to see if this is the case....are the tires turned all the way in one direction, and the steering wheel uis locked...if so you need to pull the steering wheel either right or left hard when trying to turn the key to on, if its not this problem jump out your brake light swith electrical connector at the top of the brake pedal....if this wears out the lock out will not work and the key wont turn or come out of gear. Play with the shifter while holding your foot down on the brake, use your free hand on the key trying to get it to turn all the while, if all is in vain you will need a good "car doctor" to check out the ignition switch and locking devices as they may become a bit much for the average DIYer.

How do you get a stearing colum unlock and the

hi if the problem is that the lock has locked and wont free when you try and turn the ignition on then what you should try is turning the steering wheel from left to right as hard as you can whilst you try turning the key, the problem is usually that the lock is under pressure from the tyres trying to turn the steering wheel so with this pressure on the lock the key just wont turn so you need to try and release this pressure so that the key will turn and unlock the lock.

so hold the steering wheel tight and turn it left using a bit of pressure whilst you keep trying to turn the key dont hold the key in the same possition as this wont free the lock keep turning the key on and off so that it resets and this should then allow the lock to free and you should be able to start your car, if turning the steering wheel left dont work then try right and repeat with the key on and off until the lock is off and the steering is free.

now it is going to be tight so you will need some force to turn the steering wheel as the force from the tyres will be quite alot so you will need to use force to work the steering wheel left and right whilst turning the key.

now if this still dont work then this will either mean you have a problem with the key or the actual ignition barrel has got a fault if this is the case then your going to need to get a new igniton barrel, the part the key goes into before the lock will free itself, all you need to do to remove the barrel is to remove the cover from the steering wheel surround and then you will see how the barrel comes out of its surround but dont do this until you have a new lock in case you forget how you got it apart.

the chances are the lock is just stuck and working the steering wheel left then right as far as you can will free it up if it dont then you can also try jacking the 2 front wheels off the floor like put the car on stands then try turning the steering left and right to unlock the ignition doing it this way releases the pressure from the tyres and should make it easier to unlock the steering.

let me know how you get on or if you need further assistance ok

When I put the key into the ignition and try to turn it it wont turn. The steering wheel is lock and when I try to move the steering wheel to find the "sweet Spot" to turn the key and start the car the key...

If your are turning the wheel to the "sweet spot" like you said, and you are using the right key, do you have a second key that still won't work? Then ignition lock tumblers are worn. You or dealer has to fix.

When I click it to come it wont.. then the light for it comes on and is the cruise control still wont work. Is it a fuse maybe? 1997 Nissan Altima

Hello there.

I would deffinetly check all of your fuses first, as cruise controll will work with a different part of the car.

i know that abs ( anti lock brake system) works with traction controll.

so i would deffinetly go for fuses buddy, there located under the steering wheel on the right if a right hand drive car.

if left hand drive, then left hand side on a pull down flap, you will see with have a little clip on it.

Thanks alot.

Ps. there are also fuses in the engine bay located in a little black box, with normally white numbers and lines on :) the in car fuse layout is found on the reverse of the plastic, cover that will either come off or flip down.
