2002 GMC 2500HD 8.1L

While driving today (speed 40mph) my truck died, no power to the engine, it shut off. Pulled to the side of the road waited for 5 min. and it started up. This happened two days ago some what the same. Drive for six miles parked and when returning to the truck would not start. Waited 5 to 10 min. after trying to start several times and it started up. There was no engine light on the dash , I checked the engine with a code reader and a stored code came up #P0134 ( 02C CKT NO ACTIVITY DETECTED 1/1) I cleared the code and waiting to see if the code comes back. What do you think? Thanks BDC

I have the same problem with mine. It has been going on for 3 years. I changed everything in fuel system. cleaned mass air flow sensor and throttle body... still no luck... heard crank sensor might cause this also?

It is most likely the Crankshaft position sensor. I have an 02 GMC HD w/8.1 and an 01 2500 Suburban with 8.1...have replaced the CPS in both. To get accurate reading, you will need to to hook up code reader and leave until it dies...code resets upon should'
cost more than $300...has since been recalled, I think...check with may be able to mitigate your repair costs.

I had the same exact problem on my pickup. Same year and motor. I replaced the crankshaft position sensor and the problem has never happened again. This sensor is located on the drivers side of the engine near the bell housing. It's a bit hard to get it out. You may have to break it in order to remove it. Be careful with the new one going in. Good luck and I hope this helps!

It sounds like your alternator might be starting to go bad and the Battery Light is coming on because it is not charging the battery correctly. Have your Alternator checked with a volt meter, it should be reading 13 to 14 volts if working correctly. If not, replace your alternator.

Ignition Control Module is bad. When the dielectric grease used to mount them gets hard, they overheat and cause you to shut down. Really easy to install(about 10 mins.). I had this happen on two Fords. If you let the engine sit and cool down, they will fire up and run till that part gets hot, then itll die on ya. Auto zone sells this part for around 35 bucks.

My 2002 2500HD 4x4 front axle not engaging

Try jacking up one side of the front and putting it on a jackstand. Then turn key on(but dont start it) and put it in 4hi. Try to spin the tire in the air. The drive shaft should not turn nor the wheel. If the wheel does then maybe the acuator is not moving in the axle. It worked when you pulled it out but it might be hanging up on something in the axle.
