Remove the Fan Shroud. You have to do this with Both the Old and New Waterpump out. The fan has 4 Nuts that hold it on to the Pulley. Remove these and Remove the Fan and the Pulley. You will need the Studs off of the Old Waterpump and they are Threaded into the Small Circle that is on the Front of the Waterpump Under the Pulley. There is no Easy way to get these off. It is Tough. Then when you are done Fighting with these, Install the Studs on the New Waterpump and Install the Pump. You can do this either with or Without the Fan already put back on. How to change the water pump on 98 GMC Sierra

Michael is correct on replacing water pump but if you are mech. inclined it can be done by removing upper fan shroud and serp. belt only. leave fan on pump until removed. remove 4 15mill bolts and the whole assembly. apply gasket sealer to both sides of gasket and insert 2 upper bolts to keep gasket in place when reinstalling.I have a 1998 gmc and did this a couple days ago while installing injection spider.

While the 90PSI. is low, it will run ok like that. Check to see if it's getting spark from Dist.cap to that plug, it could be a bad igntion wire. If you find everything's good, then these motors with this type injection system have problems with the injection module and have to replace the unit as the nossels aren't seperate.

Water pump

I am guessing you have a 5.7 liter engine. remove your hoses belt, and upper fan shroud, fan and pulley. then there should be four bolts to take out for the pump to come off. clean gasket surface good and reinstall in reverse order with thread sealer on the four bolts and gasket sealer on the gasket.

2000 gmc sierra 2500 the engine temp rises when stopped. It has a 6.0 V8 i also noticed the transmission temperature is going above 200degrees, thats never happened even hauling loads in texas heat

Just guessing but, I'd say either fan clutch is going bad, not turning as fast as it should be once temps go up or if you have electric fans, either fans or relays bad. I'm leaning more toward the fan clutch. The fins on the impeller of the waterpump can also wear done over time and reduce the amount of water flow. You may also want to make sure the fins in the radiator are clean and not stopping air flow. I'm assuming that when you're moving there's no problem so that should say that water pump, thermostat are doing good. Please rate this. Thanks
