Question about 1997 Ford Ranger SuperCab
I was driving my '97 Ranger on the interstate, and the engine just lost power (I couldn't accelerate or keep my speed). I coasted to stop on the shoulder, and tried to start it later a few times but it wouldn't start (it only kind of started just once--it seemed to be at half power, then it died again 10 seconds later). It should still have just under half a tank of gas. Does this sound like a battery or an alternator problem? I just changed the battery three weeks ago. I still had my headlights and my interior lights. Please help.
It may be a weak fuel pump. They give you a couple chances when failing. Did this happen before?
And yes, you may have a poor alternator.
Take a volt meter. And test the positive side of alternator. Ground the black wire to the engine or frame. Set the meter for 20 v. Or, take the car to shop. Or, call a mobile auto mechanic.
