Knocking sound yes! It's more of a ticking than knocking. It started yesterday, so i went ahead and had the oil changed.Prior to that it had not been changed for about a year or so.

If its just a ticking, its probably just a lifter....thats long time to go without an oil not getting on you girlfriend did the same thing, and one of her lifters was ticking, we had the oil changed, and it quite over a little time....i would recommend changing the oil around 2000 mile next time as dirty oil sluges up your motor....i would worry about it....

Knocking than oil light on just change filter and oil

Your engine is gone. Replace or rebuild. If your car is old, junk it. Time for a new one.

I have a 1999 5.4 f150 4x4 loud knocking started on passanger side also guages all pinned and bounced around truck runs rough and stalls what could it be

it sounds like a critical internal failure is eminent . if the oil pressure is ok,it could be a bent or broken valve as the exhaust leak can let the valves cool to fast and warp. however it sounds more critical than that. do a compression test on that side and see if the #'s are consistent.

Theres a knocking /ticking sound on right side of 04 ram 1500

If you have not been too good about doing oil changes clogged lifters is very possible. There are many products to flush your oil, but what I prefer is to change your oil and filter , put in 1 quart of marvel mystery oil in place of one qt of oil, run for about 100 miles then change oil and filter again

The other day we heard a knocking sound whick sounds like it is coming from the enigine we checked the oil and it was low so we went ahead and did an oil change but when we start the car up still it is...

stacey_jo219, You dont state here where the sound is coming from. Does it sound like the top of the engine? If it is, then you could have a bad lifter or two. This usually happens when the engine is run with not enough oil in it. This sounds more like a ticking sound than a knock as you state here. This will sometimes go away with time when you have the proper oil level in the engine. If it doesn't then the affected lifters will have to be replaced which is hard to diagnose which ones are bad so they are usually all replaced. If the sounds like it is from the bottom of the engine (this is more like a knocking sound) then it is usually a bad bearing on the crankshaft and the engine will have to be replaced. This is cheaper than rebuilding the engine. These are just two possibilities of what your problem could be. If you wish, resubmit your question and try to be more specific about where exactly the sound is coming from. Good luck with this.

I have a 2003 Chevy Impala. I ran my car with no oil and now I'm hearing a loud ticking/knocking noise coming from under my valve cover. I added 2 bottles of oil after finding out that I didnt have any...

might be the valves have been damaged running without oil
- or the crankshaft / camshaft / main bearings
most probably you have to let the engine be rebuilt by a mechanic
(expect cost of more than US$ 2.000)
or get another (used) engine at a scrapyard 2003-chevy-wutfveiel3ypko01ydor435x-5-0.jpg 2003-chevy-wutfveiel3ypko01ydor435x-5-2.jpg

Knocking under valve cover on cold starts

Is there any smoke when you first start it? what is happening is the valve seals are probably worn and letting the oil seep past them. when your engine is first started it has no oil or very little oil at the top of the engine, thus causing the knocking noise. could be more but this is a most likely answer. oh and is you haven't changed your oil every 3,000 miles you had beeter start doing it.... answer knocking sounds usually come from bottom of engine try a better quality and correct viscosity oil

Loud ticking/knocking/rattling sound when I start/accelerate

hi is it miss-firing as it sounds like a knocking noise can be anything but if you can feel it on the accelerater pedal then the noise sounds like its on the inlet valve side which would transfere the noise up the throttle body where the accelerater is located it could be something as simple as a tappet come loose to a burned valve you need to have a look do a compression test and take the rocker cover off see if theres anything come loose yates210456
