If the wipers were jammed two things could have happened to the motor. The first possibility is that you striped one of the plastic gears, or the second more likely option is that the ball joint on the wiper has popped off. Try moving the wiper blades back and forth and listen for a sound like metal scraping or dragging which will mean its the ball joint. To fix it first take off the wiper motor and locate the joint still attached to the blades ( move the blades back and forth till you see it). Once you have found the joint tie some rope around the wiper joint arm and pop the joint back together. I had this happen once with a Subaru during a snow storm.
This is an old but very current problem also. I just replace my second 97 caravan motor in 6 months because of severe grinding noise and it was the motor both times. I got another re-mfg replacement motor last week and it is totally quiet. Before you install the crank arm on the motor you operate the wiper switch in all positions to check that the computer is running it intermittently, slow and fast etc. that it and shuts it off at the same position every time. That shut off position is park. Unplug the external motor connector or fuses. Now push the mechanism arms fully to the right and install the crank arm at two o'clock on the motor shaft, which gives you just enough room to install the hold down nut. Hold one of the metal bars so you don't turn the motor during tightening the nut. Now reconnect the power plug and test the operation. The motor should shut off with the right end arms fully extended, which, when connected with the blade arm, will make them stop at the bottom of the windshield. Install the driver side wiper arm slightly above level and the left arm 4 inches below that. Don't power tighten yet. Test the operation. If they hit each other adjust one or the other away. This works for most all wiper adjustments. When you get everything looking right and sweeping the full window and not the body. Start tightening and putting every thing back together. Also clean out the wiper pan and the two drain hoses. The hoses can be pulled loose below the pan. LOL
Hi! There may be a problem on your wiper motor. The wiper motor may be weak thats why it doesnt have enough power to pull it down. Try replacing the wiper blades too for it may be worn and could be causing the motor to be forced too much.
You are probably correct in thinking its the wiper motor. You can do this but you will need to remove all the interior trim from the rear hatch first. Get a trim clip removal tool at a parts store...it will work much better than just a flat blade screwdriver. You'll have to remove the trim panels starting in order from the top of the door, then the left rear window side trim, then right rear window side trim, then the grab handle, and finally the main rear hatch trim panel. Once inside, removing and replacing the rear wiper motor is easy. You'll start by lifting the cover on the wiper arm retention nut. Remove this nut to get the wiper arm off, then remove the nut under neath which is the motor shaft mounting nut. Now, back inside to remove the other 3 motor mounting bolts. Don't forget to disconnect the connector for the motor wires. Reverse steps to replace.
pull wiper up off screen and place a sheet of ply or cardboard on screen in case it flicks down with no blade on end of arm.holding blade /arm assembly turn blade horizontal to arm then push down on bottom of the plastic clip on the end of the arm at the end of the U piece and slide down towards bottom then when free push whole thing up at an angle to clear the U on the end of the arm.shouldnt take more than a minute to do.takes longer to write about it happy new year
