Code reads misfiring on cylinder 8. where is cylinder 8 on a 2004 ford epedition

The spark plug wires might have the numbers on them. My Freestar original wires did.

From another web page http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Where_is_cylinder_8_on_5.4L_ford_engine

Probably at the rear (closest to firewall) on the driver's side.

Could be spark plug, ignition wire or coil (or coil pack).

I have a 1998 ford expedition and the other day I took it to auto zone because the check engine light turned on. The trouble shooting said that it had cylinder misfire detected. does anybody what caused...

A cylinder misfire means that the fuel / air mixture is not completely igniting / burning -- this could be an intermittent misfire or a misfire on each revolution of the engine.

There are many possible causes for this, among them ::

- bad plug wires
- malfunctioning coil
- fouled spark plug
- clogged fuel injector
- burned valves
- malfunctioning valve lifters
- etc., etc...

I believe this addresses your question -- if not, pls let me know.

My 2003 ford expedition reads a code 0303= 3 cylinder misfire, which side of my vehicle would that be on and could replacing ignition coil and spark plug fix it and stop the lose of power and hesitation?

Third cylinder back on the passenger side. I'd recommend changing all 8 coils and spark plugs. These coils don't last long, and once one goes, more will fail soon after. This job also requires removing the fuel rail to gain access to the coil and plugs. I personally have the same SUV and went through the same issue!!

Why is my 1997 expedition showing a misfire on number 2 cylinder OBD code PO302. Also I am getting code readings PO174 andPO171 system to lean on Bank 1and 2

PO302 is being a misfire, could mean the plug is bad or the coil is bad for that cylinder. Which can give you the misfire reading and the system to lean codes. Check the #2 coil for firing.

How are cylinders numbered 1-8

4 8
3 7
2 6
1 5
FRONT

The coils are very simple to change. You will only need a socket wrench, extension and, if I remember correctly, a 7mm socket.

1. remove electrical connection on coil.
2. remove bolt holding down coil
3. twist and pull to remove coil
4. apply di-electric grease inside new coil
5. press onto plug
6. apply di-electric grease inside electrical connector
7. bolt down coil
8. reconnect electrical connection.

After you are done, you will wonder why the dealership charged you so much for something so simple that can be done in 15 minutes, taking a beer break between each coil.

How To Replace the #5 coil for a 2001 Ford Expedition

if you know that it is the coil. changing it is really easy. you are going to need a 10mm socket with extention. a 7mm socket for the coil mount bolt. first leading bank is number 1-4 front going back( passenger side) driver side is 5-8. 5 is the front cylinder on drivers side. remove the power stearing bracket 3 10mm bolts. coil is right underneath. intake can be removed if you feel is needed. after that there is a 7mm bolt remove the bolt. disconnect the 2 pin connector. pull to remove the coil. the boot may come off if coil hasn't been moved in some time. use pliers to remove it if that happens. blow out spark plug hole with shop air. installed new coil. install 7mm bolt. plug connector in. reinstall power steering mount bracket. good to go.
