I went to start the van and it would not start. So we listened for the fuel pump to start running before starting the van. Can I say 1st turn starts the van ...2nd turn starts the van. There was no fuel pump pumping sound. Purchased a new one went to put it on. So disconnected the battery cable. and the fuel pump plug. Reconnected everything before putting the new fuel pump on and the van started ... So thought it was fixed. Next day it stopped running while driving .... Please help what now ? may I add I am becoming very close friends with the Tow Trucker Driver haha

No Never did install the new one because the van started great after I connected the battery cable back.

Yes the van did run out of gas 5 months ago. And the fuel pump does not make the sound when I turn the key to position 1 { meaning I would not start the van} Could you please tell me how to test the fuel pump ? And how do I check for the air in the fuel rail and remove it ?

1) Are you certain that the original problem was the fuel pump?

2) Did you replace with a new or used fuel pump?

3) What are you using as an indication the fuel pump has failed?

So did you ever install the new fuel pump?

Have you run the Astro out of gas? And if you did, did you purge any air out of the fuel rail? It almost sounds like you've got an air bubble in the system.

OK. Let me know what else I can do to help you.

After doing some looking around (and I owned 2 Astro's, an 88 and a 95) I would reconsider replacing the fuel pump. But I would also replace the fuel regulator and the fuel filter.

And how long since the fan had cap, rotor (assuming this one had cap and rotor), wires, and plugs? One thing I found was caps and rotors seem to fail on these Astros' in the year range you describe. Mkae sure on the distributor that the weep holes are clear in the base of the distributor.

Let me know what you find.

95 chevy corsica wont start. it ran fine the night before but now it turns but wont start.

As with any no start issue, you need to figure out if you are dealing with a no fuel or no spark problem to proceed.
The pump could have failed, or the filter in the tank could be plugged up.
I would make sure it has spark at the plugs and then check fuel pressure with a gauge.

My 91 cutless ran out of gas one day and has never ran right since. Replaced ever sensor on the car, fuel pump every thing. Runs good for 2 or 3 days and then it won't stay started. Went out few mouths...

You may have loaded a fuel line or connector up with contaminants. What else is happening during the second or 3rd day of running? Is it running low on fuel? Try to make a list of your gauge set! It only makes sense.

The car ran out of gas one day so i put some in it and went to the store and put more in it then it drove fine till it got low then it started acting like it was out of gas sputtering and what i...

first replace the filter this is the least expensive repair..when u ran out of gas u may have sucked up (dirt) in the fuel tank.....if that doesnt work bring it to a service repair station an have a fuel pressure gauge hooked up to it....this willl tell u if the fuel pump is starting to fail...when u run low or out of gas the fuel pump can over heat an cause premature failure....u should never allow ur gas to go below a quarter of a tank since the fuel is what cools the fuel pump

Power fadded over a few days now its dead. Fuel Pump?

It's quite possible to ruin a fuel pump by letting it run dry, especially if it already has years of use. When you first turn on the key, leave the door open and see if you can hear a high pitched whine for about three seconds. That would be the pump priming the system. If you don't hear it, then the pump isn't working. Be sure to turn the key of for about 10 seconds before you try listenng again(it has to reset). It can be hard to hear, especially over the key buzzer.

You have two pumps,I guess you know that ,if you already did one. Did you check fuel pressure at the rail and check out the electronic pressure regulator? What codes are coming up and do they stay set?

I have a new battery. i have changed the fuel

I'm guessing you checked the fuses already, so if you have spark at the plugs, look for a vacuum leak. If you still suspect the fuel pump, do a fuel pressure test.
