Question about 1991 Honda Accord

1991 Honda S light

Hey I got it to shift thru Reverse, 1st and 2nd. But I cant tell for sure if its shifting into D3 and D4 properly. D4 doesnt seem to be running smooth.
Will the ECU tell me whats wrong? Or do I have to take it to a transmission shop?

If you drive the car with the shifter in d1 and while driving down the road move the shifter to up shift the foward gears individually if the rpms drop every time you up shift you know your trans shifted if this allows you to go through all gears you have an ecu problem if the car still doesnt shift you have a trans problem and would need to take the car to a transmission shop

My 1990 honda accord for some time has had the s(green) light blinking off and on, had it is solid S green and it seems as it won't shift gears, I don't have power like before? what happened?

The flashing s light means a transmission problem. The transmission computer is under the carpet on passenger side under where you put your feet. Pull down the carpet to see the diagnostic light. Turn on the key to count the flashes to get the code. Pulll a list of codes from the internet.
If your trans shifts properly if you manually shift it thru the gears, going from D1, D2 D3 but feels like it is starting in second when in drive at a stop, the computer is probably the issue, and can be repaired or exchanged for a good computer, lots of companies do this ,find 1 on the internet.

What gear can I used for highway D3 or D4

use d4. d4 is for normal driving. d3 is to down shift the transmission in case you wanna pass. use d3 only if you want to down shift because if you leave your car in d3 on the highway, it doesnt allow the 4th gear to engage, causing your engine to run at higher revs, not only wasting more gas but also making your engines life last less. hope this helps. if you need more help, let me know. goodluck

When it rains my car's dash display says I'm in PARK and D4 at the same time. When I put it in D4 to drive, it starts out in D3 and stays there. I can manualy shift to 1st gear, but when I go to...

sounds to me like water is leaking into something electrical. either that, or one of the transmission sensors located underneath the transmission is having water damage. to check the computer, it is located underneat the glove compartment. lift the rug up, and there are two computers, the one on the right is the tcu or transmission computer. check to see if there are any damaged cables, and cover them if there are. or you can remove the computer itself, open it, and check to see if there is any damage to the inside of the computer. if there is, go to the junkyard and pick one up, there around 50, compared to 200 new at the dealer or online. the other place you can check is the transmission itself. lift the car up from the passanger's side, (make sure to use proper precautions) and check the counter shaft speed sensor and your mainshaft speed sensor to see if the wires are exposed. they are located underneath the transmission

heres a link that shows the 4 trasmission sensors that have any control over the shifts. the picture shows the sensors if the transmission would be see through. the last thing and probably the first thing you should check because it is the easiest would be the two solenoids in front of the transmission. the link is pointing at both solenoids but only one of them is being named because the other one is being cut out of the picture. i hope this helps and goodluck. and if you need further help, let me know

Would need more info on the heat/ac problem. But on the shifting problem check under the hood and make sure when the shifter is moved the linkage moves. If not the shift cable is most likely the problem, but check at the shifter to make sure.

Larry, you really need to take it to a trasnsmission shop and find out what the trouble codes are, but it seems as though you have a burned up transmission. Thanks and good luck with your repair.
