2006 Jeep Commander seems stuck in 4wd. Dash displays service 4wd system, but doesn't throw a code.

its bad or using it wrong,
are you on dry pavement.? or ICE, or Dirt, surely we cant guess.????

if car has Part time 4WD, then dont drive on dry pavement.
dry means ice free.
AWD cars (an option on some) you can drive anywhere, any time.
Allwheeldrive.

OD'd on OD? sigh.
OD is a tranny function. (top gear, overdriven ratio)
the lamp can also show failures.... (old cars, where is this lamp>?)
all this is in the operators guide, in the glove box.
read the lamp and its modes of operation. and warnings.

Is the Check Engine lamp glowing , running? if yes scan it.
as this lamp also reports transmission errors. pg 176.
is your car 2wd or 4wd? ?

advice: What is the CEL doing and are all fuses good.
1: this car uses, CAN buss, a car digital network.
it can have errors, and if the OD function is acting up
the book says, do the CAN diagnostics to see if there are errors
from the Display system called CLuster, and the BCM/PCM or tranny functions.
there are 2 tranmissions ( RFE or NAG?)and 3 engines and diff, 2wd/4wd systems options. non of which were stated.
nor exactly where this light is? they never mention it in the opr guide.

Are you check fuses? and harnesses connections.

May be the starter solenoid, or a weak battery. Especially in cold weather, a weak battery will not have enough amps to kick in the solenoid on the starter, but may start after a few tries. Also may be as simple as a loose or corroded battery connection. Get the battery checked first, as this will not get better, only worse with time. If the battery and connections check out, then have the starter solenoid checked.

No. The only time the check engine light will come on is when the computer sees a fault with a sensor, a problem with a component it controls, or a problem with a system that it monitors. Your best bet is to have the computer scanned to see what codes are present. Once you know that post them here and i'll be happy to help you further.

we dont know what 4wd option you have , so how can we answer you. Impossible that be.

do not drive part time, on non icing pavement, are you on dirt?
not posting road conditions also makes all answers wrong.
if you attempt to use PT or lock on dry pavement you will damage the car.

car stuck
lever stuck
just light stuck, and drives ok
is steering acting odd , like it does in 4low, or PT ?

It cant hurt to check your spare. It may need a bit more air.

Time to change the oil !!! service light can be reset for 3000 miles on dash panel.

There is a software update for that at the dealer. Take it there should be coverdedunder warenty.
