Im having trouble finding ball joints

Hi the right hand side of my lower ball joint broke off i want 2 know will the 90 civic lower ball joint fit , the manual says so [honda prelude 1989]

Havent a clue to be truthful ,just try fitting it but check the actual stud in case its a different size thickness as this can vary between build runs

I want to replace lower control arm 2006 ford escape


I replaced both lower control arms on my 03' Escape last night, it took about 1.5 hours/side. A second set of hands is helpful. The only difficulty was the pass. side ball joint bolt and nut were seized and stripped while attempting to remove. I had to air chisel the nut off but would have used hack saw if necessary.
I had bad ball joints and the control arm mounts and bushings appeared corroded and worn. On many messageboards I found debates about replacing the ball joints only or the whole control arm. I felt full arm replacement made the most sense. It is assembled with the bushings and ball joint in place. I bought Moog units from Rockauto for @ 77/pc. that allow for greasing the ball joint. I also bought new body bolts from the dealer at 20$/pc., since I was concerned about corrosion.
I have found varying processes for removing. The following worked for me.
1. Sprayed three bolt areas with PB thrust(penetrant) a few days ahead and soaked again the day before. I am in WNY and corrosion is a big problem. I dreaded breaking off one of the main bolts in the body.
2. Jack up, support vehicle properly (2 jack stands), I pulled the plastic underbody splash shields just enough to get better access. They were 10mm some broke off while removing.
3. Started removing main control arm bolts. The rear bolt came out easily on both sides using 1/2 in. breaker bar and 19mm? socket. The front horizontal bolt (15mm)made alot of noise coming out. I worked it back and forth and sprayed penetrant as I removed it. The driver side had me worried I was gonna snap it but no problems. The end threads corrode and as they remove through the body nut threads there is alot of resistance.
4. Remove ball joint nut and bolt(15mm). See above note about having to cut off nut. Once the bolt is removed, alot of online how tos mention joint pullers and other specialized tools. I just pried out the control arm from the body (to give the joint a better angle to the knuckle). I put a pry bar between the pinch joint of the knuckle and the ball joint. Then rap the control arm with a hammer while prying and the joint falls right out. A little spray penetrant helps too.
5. To reassemble:
A. Place rear mount of control arm in place and get bolt started.
B. Place Front mount in place. One side we had to pry forward in the rear mount area to get front in place, the other side went in no trouble. Start bolt here too.
C. Angle ball joint to where you think it lines up best with pinch bolt of knuckle. Get it started and we used a rubber mallet to somewhat gently persuade it into place. Once it was lined up we rapped the joint area while shaking the knuckle/strut and it pops right into place. Line up groove of ball joint with bolt hole. Start bolt and nut. My bolts were facing forward so I replaced them in the same way they came out. Torqued to 52 ft./lbs
6. Torqued front bolt to 150 ft/lbs and the rear bolt to 85 ft./lbs. There is a torque diagram I found online showing the control arm and giving these specs.
7. Install grease fitting, grease joints and tie rod end while in there.
8. Pop plastic splash shields back in place and rebolt.
9. Finish up,schedule an alignment, have a beer and feel good you saved about 400$ or more.

Removing lower ball joint on nissan navara


Remove front wheel (axle stand under chassis).
Remove hub nut (32mm).
Disconnect steering track rod ball joint (leave nut on last few threads for protection 22mm then strike steering arm part of knuckle to shock pin free).
Remove brake caliper & disc. Hang caliper out of way. No need to disconnect brake hose.
Disconnect ABS sensor at top arm area and unclip from mount.
Loosen top ball joint nut. Strike part of knuckle where pin goes through to shock it free. leave nut on loose for now.
Undo lower ball joint pinch bolt & remove. This will probably be seized & will require plenty of penetrating oil & patience to get out.
Next the lower ball joint pin needs to come out of the knuckle so the knuckle can be taken off. You will probably have to beat a chisel into the split portion to open it slightly as the ball joint pin will be rusted in.
Now you have plenty of space to remove the ball joint from the lower arm. Jack vehicle & move stand to under lower arm just in enough to allow ball joint to be removed.
Remove circlip & hammer ball joint out. Use a suitable drift so as not to accidently miss & burr lower arm.
Now the part the perfectionists are not going to approve of.
Heat the hole in the arm gently with a torch (no need to get it glowing red hot but pretty hot!). You will know when its right by trying the old joint (you will be able to get it in position by hand easily without hammering). Now put the new ball joint in place & quickly & drench with cold water before any heat from the arm damages the new ball joint. Fit new circlip.
Reassemble everything in reverse.
There are other ways to do this job but I found this the most practicle for DIYer without special tools.

How to replace a lower ball joint on 2004 mercury mountaineer?


Remove the brake caliper by removing the two bolts that connect it to the steering knuckle. Remove the lower ball joint cotter pin and retaining nut. Pry the steering knuckle up and away from the lower ball joint. Unscrew the grease fitting from the bottom of the lower control arm. Press the lower ball joint out of the control arm using a ball joint remover set.
Press the lower ball joint into the control arm using a ball joint installation tool. Remove the block of wood supporting the upper control arm. Install a new cotter pin through the ball joint stud.Install the grease fitting on the bottom of the ball joint. Use a c-clamp to push the piston back into the brake caliper. NEED NEW BALL JOINTS WHAT PARTS WOULD I NEED


Ball joints come as upper and lower. Requires at least a ball joint separater tool and small hand grinder along with basic hand tools. Some lowers are pressed in/out and require either a c-clamp style press or to remove control arm and take to a machine shop to be pressed in using a floor press. Parts are ordered by vehicle make, ball joints run in the $25-$40 range per joint. All you need to do is go to the parts store, tell them what vehicle and they can give you the proper joints you require. 2 upper joints and 2 lower joints. (1 each on each vehicle side). Not and easy job, but not impossible to do at home. Joints for your vehicle should be in stock at most auto parts stores.

How to repair a lower ball joint on the passenger side

1. Raise and support vehicle.
2. Remove tire and wheel assembly, then install modified outer seal protector No. J34754, or equivalent, Fig.3 .
3. Remove lower ball joint cotter pin and nut, then loosen ball joint from steering knuckle using tool No. J-29330, or equivalent.
4. Position a suitable pry bar between suspension support and lower control arm and separate lower ball joint from steering knuckle. On some models, it may be necessary to remove nut attaching link to stabilizer shaft.
5. Locate center of rivet body and mark with a center punch.
6. Using a 1/8 inch drill, drill pilot holes completely through rivets. Using a 1/2 inch drill, drill final holes through rivets to ensure fitting of new ball joint.
7. Remove ball joint from lower control arm.
8. Assemble new ball joint to lower control arm with bolts provided in service package, Fig.9 . Tighten bolts to specifications.
9. Insert ball joint stud into steering knuckle and tighten nut to specifications, then install cotter pin.
10. Install wheel and tire and check front wheel alignment.

I need to replace the lower ball joints. The new joints have a 4 bolt design.


That 4 bolt design is for the upper ball joint, the lower ball joint in press in, that the wrong one you have.

UPPER BALL JOINTS
  1. Raise and support the truck with jackstands. Remove wheel.
  2. Support the lower control arm with a floor jack.
  3. Remove the cotter pin from the upper ball stud and loosen, but do not remove the stud nut.
  4. Using a forcing-type ball joint separator tool, loosen the ball stud in the steering knuckle. When the stud is loose, remove the tool and the stud nut. It may be necessary to remove the brake caliper and wire it to the frame to gain clearance.
  5. On R-series trucks, drill out the rivets using a 1 / 8 in. drill bit. Remove the ball joint assembly.
  6. On C-series trucks, drill out the rivets using a 1 / 8 in. drill bit to start a pilot hole. Drill out the rivets with a 1 / 2 in. bit. Remove the ball joint assembly using a screw-type forcing tool.

To install:
Installation is the reverse of removal but please note the following important steps.
  1. On R-series vehicles, tighten the ball joint nuts to 18 ft. lbs. (24 Nm).
  2. On R-series vehicles, tighten the ball stud nut as follows:

    1 / 2 ton trucks: 50 ft. lbs. (68 Nm), plus the additional torque to align the cotter pin. Do not exceed 90 ft. lbs. (122 Nm) and never back the nut off to align the pin. 3 / 4 and 1 ton trucks: 90 ft. lbs. (122 Nm), plus additional torque necessary to align the cotter pin. Do not exceed 130 ft. lbs. (176 Nm) and never back off the nut to align the pin.
  3. On C-series vehicles, tighten the ball joint nuts as follows:

    1988-90 models, tighten the nuts to 17 ft. lbs. (23 Nm) for the 15 and 25 Series and 52 ft. lbs. (70 Nm) for 35 the Series. 1991-98 models, tighten the nuts to 18 ft. lbs. (24 Nm).
  4. On C-series vehicles, tighten the ball stud nut to 90 ft. lbs. (120 Nm) on 1988-90 models, 84 ft. lbs. (115 Nm) on 1991-95 models and 74 ft. lbs. (100 Nm) on 1996-98 models.
  5. Install a new lube fitting and lubricate the new joint.
LOWER BALL JOINTS
  1. Raise and support the front end on jackstands.
  2. Support the lower control arm with a floor jack.
  3. Remove the wheel.
  4. Remove the lower stud cotter pin and loosen, but do not remove, the stud nut.

  1. Loosen the ball joint with a forcing-type ball joint tool. It may be necessary to remove the brake caliper and wire it to the frame to gain enough clearance.
  2. When the stud is loose, remove the tool and ball stud nut.
  3. Install a spring compressor on the coil spring for safety.
  4. Pull the brake disc and knuckle assembly up and off the ball stud and support the upper arm with a block of wood.
  5. Remove the ball joint from the control arm with a ball joint fork or another suitable tool.

To install:
Installation is the reverse of removal but please note the following important steps.
  1. On R-series vehicles, start the new ball joint into the control arm. Position the bleed vent in the rubber boot facing inward.
  2. On C-series vehicles, force the ball joint into position using a screw-type forcing tool. The ball joint will bottom in the control arm. The grease seal should face inboard.
  3. On R-series vehicles, turn the screw until the ball joint is seated in the control arm.
  4. Lower the upper arm and match the steering knuckle to the lower ball stud.
  5. On C-series vehicles, start ball stud into the knuckle. Install the nut and tighten it to 90 ft. lbs. (122 Nm) on 1988-90 models; 84 ft. lbs. (115 Nm) on 1991-94 models and 94 ft. lbs. (128 Nm) on 1995-98 models. Advance the nut to align the cotter pin hole and insert the new cotter pin. NEVER back off the nut to align the cotter pin hole; always advance it!
  6. On R-series vehicles, tighten the ball stud nut to 80-100 ft. lbs. (108-135 Nm), plus the additional torque necessary to align the cotter pin hole. Do not exceed 130 ft. lbs. (176 Nm) or back the nut off to align the holes with the pin.
  7. Install a new lube fitting and lubricate the new joint.

Lower balll joints to my 2002 lincoln ls are bad


You can purchase the lower ball join on ebay for around $70. The piece will simply "press in" just as any ball joint replacement would. Find a mechanic willing to do the work for you if you bring him the parts. Just go to ebay and search 2002 lincoln ls lower ball joint. It's a fairly small piece, but you'll have to have it installed by a professional. I just replaced mine...

2002 Honda Civic LX Front Lower Ball Joint Removal/Install.


I had a question i bought a used control arm for a 2001 honda civic compared it to the original and everything was the same except the part where the ball joint goes into is a few mm thicker on the control arm. Beedless to say i got it in but i had to over tighten to get the nut in all the way. I thought this would stop the rattling sound when i hit a pothole bit its still doing it and i fear the control arm is the incorrect one what other honda has the same control arm as the civic?
