1990 toyota 4runner knocking noise from air intake will turnover but wont start

The 4runner hadn't been started since November when the Alternator and battery went, at that time a battery had been connected negative-positive for 2 seconds and car loss all power. In late january i replaced the alternator, battery, and alternator fuse. CHANGED oil and coolant as well. Has power, turns over but wont start, knocking noise in air intake. Has fuel and spark

Knocking noise in the air intake or do you mean a lifter noise, because you let it sit the lifter are not charged up or solidified,so you dont get adequate compression when you turn it over.if you have fuel and spark thats fine what about compression, noise from the air intake make me wonder if the timing belt is intacted.

SOURCE: 1992 Toyota Celica GT-S 2.2L 5sfe engine My car

difficult one this anfd i do hope more experts read it and have a think about it ,now engine will run with ether spray ,or petrol down air intake so the problem has to be fuel related ,so firstly check for fuel pressure into the fuel rail ,on the end is a car tyre like valve so push this down and check the pressure to see if it squirts ,if it has pressure then use a meter to check the current to the injectors but as its a pulse then use a dwell meter or a scope as i think the ECU could be damaged and its not pulsing the injectors to make them open allowing fuel through ,but i could be wrong of course ,it may pay to have the ECU repaired in specialist company to eliminate this as a source of your problem .

SOURCE: battery went dead changed it

Hook the battery up or try to jump-start backwards did we?
The ECU fuse gets it's power from the 140 Amp (or 180 Amp, depending on which engine your vehicle is equipped with) ALTERNATOR fuse in the engine compartment fuse block.

1990 4Runner v6/aut, 4x4. Turns over but won't start. Seems like it's not getting fuel

Spray some either into the intake while someone is cranking the engine. If it starts temporary and then quits, it is definitely a fuel problem. Check your fuel pump.

1990 grand marquis has 40 psi to fuel rail. Injectors dont seem to open. Car wount start. Car starts and runs when fuel is sprayed directly into intake.

A lot of cars, trucks, SUV's, Toyota 4x4's will not start , until COMPLETELY assembled. I have left off just the last air boot between the filter & intake throttle body, & NOTHING. Then sprayed a touch of "starting fluid" & Varooom. It came to life. I checked fuel rail, it checked out, still nothing. I gort angry, had picked up the vehicle cheap, for a quick "flip" for some extra money while the wife was hospitalized. I didn't have any more time to fool with it. Put the boot back on between the filter & throttle body. Put a For Sale sign on it. Turned the key....to turn the whell to roll it down into the yard, & it fired & ran. After scratching my head a while, I took the boot off, NOTHING ELSE, no start.sure it is completely assembled.

Knocking until car warms up

Sounds like a lifter noise. worn lifters can't keep oil in them anymore so over night the oil leaks out. when you start the vehicle, you will hear a ticking noise or knocking noise till the lifters fill with oil again. only remedy is to replace the lifters.
you could try an additive but it's temporary.

90 Toyota 4Runner pinging noise

hi the pinging you here is ignition firing before it should but if you have a knocking noise i would suspect the worse but try doing a compression test first see if everything is in order then if this seems ok have you put fuel in it just before it started if so change your fuel if not see if the electrical system has a knock sensor if so run the engine and tap the block close to it see if engine revs drop if not replace but the knock is a piston best of luck yates210456
