i am CONFUSED? you say they dont work, then you say "when you press down on the brake that the switch for the lights causes them to go off instead of turning them on when messing around with it but couldnt figure this out"........ if NO brake lights work, then check fuse 23. . if the fuse is GOOD then check wires at the brake switch. Orange should have 12V, when brake pedal is pressed then the WHITE should have 12V and lights should be on. the center rmounted stop light (BACK WINDOW) has 2 bulbs, make sure they are good. The center light is wired differently. If the center light works but brake lights do not, the turn signal switch could be bad. I assume THE TURN SIGNALS are OK? IF the turn signals are working OK, the wiring between the turn signal switch and the brake lights is GOOD
IT SEEMS THAT YOUR TAIL LIGHT BULBS ARE BLOWN, DO YOUR TURN SIGNALS FLASH FASTER THAN NORMAL ? IF SO IT IS FOR SURE THE REAR BULBS. TO REPLACE THE BULBS,LOOK IN THE TRUNK,& YOU WILL EITHER SEE SOME BLACK T HANDLE NUTS OR 10 OR 11 MM NUTS, THAT HOLD THE TAIL LIGHT ASSEMBLY IN TAKE THE NUTS OFF,& CAREFULLY PULL THE ASSEMBLY OUT ,YOU WILL SEE THE SOCKETS, SOME HAVE A LITTLE CATCH ON THEN LIKE A GALLON ANTIFREEZE JUG HAS THAT YOU HAVE TO PUSH IN,&THEN TWIST & OTHERS JUST TWIST OUT,IT SHOULD TAKE EITHER A 3157 OR 3057,BULB, BUT CHECK TO SEE FOR SURE AT THE AUTO PARTS WHERE YOU BUY THE BULBS.
Your brake light switch, which is located on the brake pedal, has malfunctioned. If you replace that your pedals will go back to working. When they go bad one or more brake lights will not work when the brake pedal is pressed but will work all other times. The reason is because the light doesn't "know" that the pedal is being pressed because it isn't getting the signal from the switch. Let me know if you have any further questions. all you need to do is buy a cheep test light in the 5-10 range. ground the test light and touch the metal in the fuse you do not need to take the fuse out. check both sides of the fuse you will see 2 metal pices on the back of the fuse were it tells you how many amps the fuse is. that is what you touch with the test light. the light should light up if not the fuses are bad. if the fuse is good take the test light and ground it again you can clip it to the side of the cig lighter socket. and put the test light prob into the cig lighter socket becarefull not to touch the sides of the socket and just touch dead center bottom and if the test light does not light up you know your Cig socket has burnt out
