I am having the same problem. We took it to a Ford dealership and they said they didn't work on lincoln's. Ha ha, yet they had the parts to fix it. When we picked it up it is still doing the same thing although we did not change coils. Could that be the problem now?

I have exactly the same problem on my 2000 Ls V8. Misfires around 40 to 45 mph at 1800 rpm.

The code was a missfire on Cylinder 7. So I swapped the coil from cyclinder 7 to 6. I ran the car for a week... still missfire and Cylinder 7 was in the error code.

mine only does it from a stop up to 30 or so. Once it heats up though the problem goes away

I was having the same problem between 40 and 50 as well as the miss fires after changing a coil that was miss firing one it reached running temp. the problem vanished so check your coils.

Are these vehicles both V8's? If so I'd put money on the fact that the valve cover gaskets are leaking and filling up the spark plug holes with oil. Pull the coil covers off each valve cover and pull the COP's out... If they are saturated with oil then the valve cover gaskets need to be replaced along with the saturated coils.

I would go with bad COP Ignition Coils

More likely you have several bad all at once

Common problem with ford & lincoln cop coils

No you don't need any codes for that to happen
& the PO 300 codes on those are not always correct.

I have had the fuel gauge code also in my Lincoln Ls &
lots of others.

Just work on the coils & disregard all codes

Not the tps, not the gas pedal, not the tacm on throttle
body.

I have seem a bad battery do some odd things

I have 03 lincoln ls v8 I changed the fuel filter because my idle was not letting me pass 40mph but that didnt solve it but it was very clogged. When the car is in park it doesnt idle but when im driving...

The fuel filter, clogged or not, will not have any
effect on determining the idle

I don't get the idle to 40mph senerio?
What does idle have to do with driving?
When your driving your above an idle!!

Disconnecting the battery, won't reset anything,
other than OBD2 MIL Lamp on the dash (Wrench)
or (Engine)

I believe there is a good possibility you have a clogged
exhaust converter or two,and should have PO 420 or
similar codes
That will be an expensive repair, and should not be
necessary ,until your car is over 12 years old

So you have other issues that caused it to melt down
inside, blocking the exhaust, and limiting you to 40 mph

The other issues have to be repaired first

On an LS, you get a couple of ignition coils go
bad a year. If you don't get them and continue to
drive for years with a misfire, you get what you have

Buy one new coil from auto parts store $59.00

Walk it one cylinder at a time

Why would you swap coils, obviously one
of them is bad.

The one you took out of #5,find it ,and put in the
new one there.

I would put in new OEM Plugs.
They are a special tip just for the LS
at least on ones newer than yours
They are NGK even though they have motorcraft
on the ceramic shell.

Clean the throttle plate and MAF with the two
CRC products for that

I wouldn't rule out a bad EGR Valve as another issue,
though not related to the misfire issue

2005 lincoln ls going into etc failsafe mode

I had to replace 4 different coils on my '02 LS before it finally stopped misfiring. After one code and coil replaced it would go to the next one. I had to replace them in this order, 2,3,7,8

When # 7 was misfiring it wouldn't even pull a code all of the time, the check engine light would come on one day then go off the next, really strange.
