My gta would do the same thing and it ended up being a bad fuel injector. if you have fuel injection get a mechanics stethoscope and listen to your injectors. they all should pulsate steadily. you will definitely hear if one is bad. hope this helps.

If you have a friend with you and a hammer... next time it won't start... whack the starter with a hammer and let me know what it does

it is a valid thing to do... i mean you don't hit it so hard as to break it... but sometimes it will start to crank when you hit it.... in which case replace the starter. the battery sounds semi good... but that's not the issue.... i suspect something on the starter is heating up.

Please rate this solution, hopefully a fixya as we are volunteers basically and our feedback are the ratings... take care

Wont start 318is

Check that your ICV ( idle control Valve) is actually alive. This is what used to happen with mine. It is located right below the throttle flap, you will see a hose going to it. Quick fix: adjust the throttle cable a tiny bit, so you have more revs and engine doesn't shut off easily. Wish you all the best!

Sounds like you need a new battery and an alternator. You can have both of these parts checked at your local AutoZone or parts store.

96 z 28 wont start

The Alt is okay but the battery won't keep a charge? Replace the battery. At least take it to an auto parts store, and have them do a load test.

Your fuel pump is electric. When you turn the key on it pumps up. After it has developed the needed pressure, it no longer pumps, hence you won't hear it working anymore.

Diagnose your problem going through the various systems. Right now you have a problem with the starting system. It sounds like, from your explanation, that the battery is bad.
If your battery checks out, and then you have the alternator checked out, you have an electrical drain. This may be tough to find.

After you replace your battery, wait 10 minutes, then try to start your Camaro. If it doesn't start, (Key to the Off position), take the Positive battery cable loose. Wait 2 minutes, then reconnect it. You are resetting the computer.
