Engine hesitates at slight load or heavy load

Changed plugs, wires coil paks,fuel pressure at 50 lbs maybe EGR valve? this is a ssei 3800 with 92000 miles

If your egr valve is sticking it will make it act like you discribed. or a vacume leak.

P0303 Flashing Service Engine Light when driving


P0303 ignition misfire on cylinder #3.
Possible Causes:

1.Fuel injectors, related wiring, sensors, computer issues
2. Running out of gas, or poor fuel quality

A P0300 diagnostic code indicates a random or multiple misfire. If the last digit is a number other than zero, it corresponds to the cylinder number that is misfiring. A P0302 code, for example, would tell you cylinder number two is misfiring. Unfortunately, a P0300 doesn't tell you specifically which cylinder(s) is/are mis-firing, nor why. it could be any of the following A code P0300 may mean that one or more of the following has happened:
  • Faulty spark plugs or wires
  • Faulty coil (pack)
  • Faulty oxygen sensor(s)
  • Faulty fuel injector(s)
  • Burned exhaust valve
  • Faulty catalytic converter(s)
  • Stuck/blocked EGR valve / passages
  • Faulty camshaft position sensor
  • Defective computer

  • Random misfires that jump around from one cylinder to another (read: P030x codes) also will set a P0300 code.     Getting a P0300 code. we have replaced all of the plugs w/ NGK Iridium plugs, changed the EGR valve, and one of the coil packs. It ran fine, but 2 days after the coil pack install., we are getting the same...


    Have the fuel pressure checked and try replacing the engine coolant temperature sensor. If an engine is not getting enough fuel it can also cause a missfire.If the on board computer gets incorrect information from a engine sensor that is defective ( such as an engine coolant temperature sensor ) then it may set the injectors to shorten the fuel pulse width cutting back on fuel delivery and not knowingly be causeing the misfire its self.     3.8L Engine
    VIN 1 Engine
    1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
    2. Relieve the fuel system pressure.
    3. Drain the cooling system.
    4. Remove or disconnect the following:
      Negative battery cable Supercharger Thermostat housing Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) tube at the intake manifold Engine Control Temperature (ECT) sensor Intake manifold
    To install:
    1. Install or connect the following:
      Intake manifold with new gaskets. Torque the bolts, working from the center out, to 11 ft. lbs. (15 Nm). ECT sensor connector EGR tube to the intake manifold Thermostat housing Supercharger Negative battery cable
    2. Refill and bleed the cooling system.
    3. Run the engine and check for leaks and proper engine operation.

    VIN K Engine
    1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
    2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
    3. Drain the cooling system.
    4. Relieve the fuel system pressure.
    5. Remove or disconnect the following:

      Intake manifold using new manifold gaskets. Torque the bolts in sequence to 11 ft. lbs. (15 Nm); then, re-torque to 11 ft. lbs. (15 Nm). EGR valve outlet pipe Drive belt tensioner assembly. Torque the tensioner bolts to 37 ft. lbs. (50 Nm). Electrical connector to the ECT sensor Thermostat housing Upper intake plenum. Torque the intake plenum bolts to 88 inch. lbs. (10 Nm). Throttle body support bracket Throttle cable bracket to the cylinder head mounting bracket and the cables to the throttle body lever EGR heat shield Fuel rail. Torque the fuel rail bolts to 88 inch. lbs. (10 Nm).     Perform a valve clearance inspection and adjust if necessary. Tight or sticking valves will cause a misfire or rough running concern. Note: Perform valve adjustment when the engine is stone cold. 4cyl: INT 0.26mm EXH: 0.30mm (V6 engine are hydraulic and no adjust necessary.) Also check for a sticking or stuck open EGR valve. For diagnostic purposes only: Remove the EGR valve. Place a business card over the EGR passage and bolt the EGR valve back on. This plugs the EGR ports and if the misfire goes away the EGR valve is partially stuck open and is defective.
    Check for low fuel pressure. Check for low compression. Check cam timing. Check for a weak ignition coil. Also don't over look the possibility of worn or broken engine mounts which cause excessive engine movement and engine vibration. -hope this helps

    Rough Idle trough1500 RPM with trouble


    A code P0303 may mean that one or more of the following has happened:
    • Faulty spark plug or wire
    • Faulty coil (pack)
    • Faulty oxygen sensor(s)
    • Faulty fuel injector
    • Burned exhaust valve
    • Faulty catalytic converter(s)
    • Running out of fuel
    • Poor compression
    • Defective computer
    Possible Solutions If there are no symptoms, the simplest thing to do is to reset the code and see if it comes back.
    If there are symptoms such as the engine is stumbling or hesitating, check all wiring and connectors that lead to the cylinders (i.e. spark plugs). Depending on how long the ignition components have been in the car, it may be a good idea to replace them as part of your regular maintenance schedule. I would suggest spark plugs, spark plug wires, distributor cap, and rotor (if applicable). Otherwise, check the coils (a.k.a. coil packs). In some cases, the catalytic converter has gone bad. If you smell rotten eggs in the exhaust, your cat converter needs to be replaced. I've also heard in other cases the problems were faulty fuel injectors.

    A. P0401 "Exhaust Gas Recirculation Flow Insufficient Detected" that there is not enough exhaust gas being admitted to the engine.
    There are a number of things you can check, and others you need a scan tool to check.
    What you can do is check for vacuum to the EGR valve. You can remove the EGR valve and see if it is stuck closed. Test it with a hand vacuum pump and see if it opens smoothly. Check the EGR valve orifice and make sure it is free and clear. Check and clean the EGR passages in the going to and from the EGR valve.
    If this checks out, then the Differential Pressure Feedback EGR system will need to be scanned to check the EGR sensors and switches

    A code P0301 may mean that one or more of the following has happened:
    • Faulty spark plug or wire
    • Faulty coil (pack)
    • Faulty oxygen sensor(s)
    • Faulty fuel injector
    • Burned exhaust valve
    • Faulty catalytic converter(s)
    • Running out of fuel
    • Poor compression
    • Defective computer

    It could be several things but most of the time with these its a faulty EGR valve that causes the off idle sputter. You can take a piece of tin soda can and bolt it between the valve and intake. If the probelm goes away then the EGR valve is at fault.
