60,000 mile maintenance

I need to know what is the bare bones necessities I should get in regard to the 60,000 mile maintenance for my 2001 Suzuki Grand Vitara (2W). I just had a complete brake job in September. I have kept up on oil changes and did the full 30,000 maintenance. The car has always been in Las Vegas, NV except for 2 winters in Buffalo NY one in 2004, one now. I will be staying in Buffalo now. I am a single mom on public assistance but my car is my lifeline. How can I care for it without paying too much?

Hi Schelly,
Looks like your, finger is well on the pulse with your maintenence, Good on You Gal!
I presume when you carried out the 30,000 you replaced the cam belt? or is your engine Camchain?
If it is a Belt I feel that is your priority if it snaps you'll be in a financial dilemma, Please I don't want to worry/frighten you but the cylinder head will sustain serious damage and to repair will need expert assistance as Valves will be needed and head skimmed etc,.
That out the way provided you change the oil and filter regular with quality oil your engine will still love you, remember to look at your Air filter if clogging will reduce economy and performance.
Although you are in a warm climate still use a quality Ethylene Glycol coolant mix for rust inhibition in the cooling system.
Spark plugs will take a clean and gap check.
Your Gearbox and rear drive could do with either an oil change If Auto maybe an additive to boost.
Battery level top up distilled water, check all bulbs, look for grease nipples and give em a couple of pumps from a grease gun.
I can't think of anything more, Come back to me if you're worried about anything, I reckon You could do a Timing belt with guidance.
I hope this helped and doesn't put the frighteners on you? please remember to rate my FREE efforts press the Blue button if happy!
Good Luck & Bless You!
Paul 'W' U.K.

Danielle, On the driver side you may have stuff in the way, which may have to be removed, to change bulb. Sometimes it is easier to remove headlight then change bulb and reassemble. Videos attached make it look fairly easy to change he bulb with out removal of headlight.
Check the attached links, instruction and guides, Good luck.

If it's a hub bearing, you can jack the car up and check for play in the hub bearing by moving the tire back and forth and in and out. Any looseness at all means a worn hub bearing.

Was told I need a fan belt. How do I know for sure if I do or don't.

There could be several fanbelts. If it's a serpentine belt, there's only one.

Belts need changing when they start developing cracks, cuts or there is obvious damage. This could hapen in the 30,000 - 60,000 mile range.

The price varies widely. I would guess the average to be $100 - $300.
