98 LEGACY DRIVERS WINDOW WENT DOWN AND WON'T GO BACK UP

THERE IS SOME SOUND OCCASIONALLY WHEN SWITCH IS PUSHED BUT WINDOW WILL NOT GO UP,WENT DOWN WITH NO ISSUES

I had exactly the same problem with my 1998 Legacy last year. It turned out to be the actual window switch itself, not the mechanism. It is a fairly easy fix, just take off the door panel and install a new switch. Don't know if this is truly your problem but it sounds the same (window went down fine but never would come back up, did make the clicking noise of a switch firing).

In may not only be the window motor there is a scissor rail system in the door look at that first if the wheels are broken or not in the track it was have the same effect as a broken gear teeth in the motor i recently learned that once these wheels break you have to buy the whole motor and regulator set up wihch usually isnt cheap if it is the wheels the very effective and cheap way to fix this is to drill out the arm on the scissor go to a hardware store and get some sealed closet door rollers it works just as good or better than factory and trust me $5.00 and some work is way better than $175.00+ and a lot of work pulling the motor, please rate if this solves the problem.. thank you.

Does this Noise Sound like Gears Stripping? If So, Then you will need to Replace the Window Motor. You will need to Remove the Door Panel to Access this Motor. Please Rate My Response! Thanks!

do any other windows work?
do they work from the drivers switch panel?
if they do, then power is likely to be present to the switch.
if the driver and pass. switches are interchangeable, try swapping them.
if all windows are dead, look for blown fuse first, then check switch and the socket/wiring harness connected to the switch.
smell the switch, if it smells burnt, it probably is...

Drivers window will go down but not up

It may be that it is not on the track properly or your power window motor is old and tierd and can take the window down but it doesn't have the juice in it any more to bring it back up. replace the motor and it will work. This problem happened to me in my '76 ford ltd and a new motor fixed it.

Passenger Window Stuck all the way Down

Try switching the power window switch from the passenger side to the drivers side. Before you do that try with the switch on the up position, wiggle it from side to side. The contacts may be worn and by wiggling it may make contact. Other then that try to park it in side or garbage bag taped to keep rain out till you get it to the shop.
Hint, take it to a Auto window repair shop to replace the switch if it's bad or if the motor is bad. They have more experience to removing the door panels and removing the power window regulator (motor) if that needs to be replaced.
Good luck and hope this helps.

92 Subaru Legacy Power Windows Don't Work

I have a 92 that did the same. After checking fuses and the relay(located under drivers seat) I discovered that the power windows control module on drivers door was bad. Went to a salvage and bought a used for $40, pulled the door panel, unscrewed and unplugged the old one, put in the used one and everything worked fine. About a week later, the passenger side motor went out and replaced that with a used power window motor. All windows now work fine.

Power window switch

it just pops out with a screwdriver. Just insert it at the top of the switch and carefully pop it out of the panel. Then just unplug the switch at the back. You cannot find it at an auto parts store so you will have to go to the dealer or get it online. The switch is the issue with the car. I have a 2000 Subaru Legacy that did the same exact thing and it was the switch.
