Alarm won't go off

I have a 99 jetta and sometimes when i lock the car the alarm engages, other times it doesn't. this time the alarm has gone on and won't go off. i've tried unlocking the driver side door but it feels like there is resistance in the lock and it turns really slowly so the alarm won't go off. help!

My car is stuck right now like this. The alarm hasn't worked in quite some time (meaning it never arms) and today, when I locked the car, the alarm armed itself. I don't know why it did; however, when I unlocked the driver's side door with the key, it didn't disengage the alarm because when I pulled the door open, the alarm went off. I can't seem to disengage the alarm according to the manual (which says to hold the key in the unlock position in the door lock to disarm it). Anybody have any idea?

I have the prob where the key does not turn off the alarm. It unlocks the door but does not deactivate the alarm. The key seems to have resistance in the lock. There is no remote. Unlocking the trunk will disarm the alarm.

if your jetta is the newer style this problem is common.
There are tiny little switches that fail in the door lock units. So the alarm computer fails to 'see' that the door is unlocked or opened. The check is does the courtsey light on bottom of the door turn on? And the dome light too? After opening the doors that were unlocked more than one minute earlier?

One of your door latches may be bad. Open the drivers door and arm the alarm with remote, Does your alarm honk once? If it does that door latch is faulty and needs to be replaced.

Anti theft alarm goes off after locking the car, this happens after about a minute after locking on my 2006 vw jetta

This is a clue, not a solution. It happens with my 1998 Jetta GT the same way, same delay. The condition comes and goes intermittently, and seems related to the trunk lock. There's a switch operated by the trunk key lock. I think that's where the problem lies. I can go for days with no problem, but sometimes after I have opened the trunk, when I lock the car the alarm goes off a minute later. Nothing will change it except opening and closing the trunk, but not every time.

sounds like the latch on the door is going out. $350 to fix. try turning off the alarm with the key by openning the trunk.

Door ajar alarm comes on while driving.

there is a switch in each door that senses the door is open, it is called the door ajar/courtesy light switch (imagine that), they stick and have this problem, replace it.

1999 Volkswagon Jetta Alarm System

I also have a 99 Jetta and I ran into this problem once or twice. How long do you wait in your car after closing the door before trying to turn it on? I've found that the car sometimes will automatically lock itself and engage the alarm system if you are inside of it for over 30 seconds without making an attempt to start it. When this happened to me, I would hit the unlock button on my keyfab twice and then attempt to start the car. Lemme know if this works for you!
