Which engine is this? and also do you have a TACH gauge?

check for spark when it wont start there is a common problem with the loss of crank signal on these cars with 2.8/3.1 engines.

If you have no spark its either a crank sensor or the ignition module going bad, but the problem is you need to verify which one it is. having a tachometer would help diagnois this. if you have a tach signal and no spark most of the time its an ignition module but you would need a lab scope to 100% know which one it is. the modules are very common on these engines.

what happens is the crank signal goes to the igintion module. and then the module loses it most of the time cause the module is supposed to send the crank signal tot he ecu. you would have to make sure the signal makes it out of the module and into the ecu. if you get a signal out of the module then you have more severe problems. that need in depth diagnosis.

98 explorer 4.0 SOHC wont idle and stalls when weather is below 40 degrees. worse when colder. Just had tune up, new airfilter new fuel filter but problem did not get better.

you have a bad idle air control valve. its job is to have motor rpm high until the motor warms up then turn it back to normal.

P.1391 problem code car starts but run for 10 to 15 min then cuts out then when u try to start it back up it wont start or u have to keep foot on the gas machine is reading code p.1391

Well I have had this problem with these cars before. Every time I had one of these cars do this it always turned out to be the fuel pump. It would start perfect when it was the first time you started it for the day but when it was warm it would quit after awhile of driving it. Also it did seem to do it more if there was a 1/4 tank or less of gas. Also when i would drive them for a bit and shut it off and let it sit for about 15 mins and go out to restart it it would start super hard and run crappy till i got it going down the road. I think there is some seals in the fuel pump the go bad and start taking in a little air causing the car to get vapor locked. I just know when I had this problem I replaced the fuel pump and never had the problem again. Hope this helps. Don't forget to rate this. Thanks

2001 ranger wont start after sitting

check the fuel pump and see is working properly, if the pump is good than the problems will be the crank sensor is faulty. what crank sensor does it sense the turning of the flywheel and it send a single to ecu, and ecu send a flow of power to turn on the fuel pump as long it sense the flywheel turning.

Hard start and rough idle.

Sounds like it's time for a tune up of the ignition system. That would be easiest. If not, have a mechanic check your cylinder compression.
