Question about 2000 Jaguar S-Type

3 Answers

I am thinking of buying a 2000 X type at a big dealer. They said it had an electrical problem with the battery but was fixed. I went to start it up and all the oil drained out of it. They said the oil plug was not on tight. The car looks brand new. They are asking 6700.00. Are these X types good vehicles?

They might BS you. They just need to sell the car. If car had electrical problems it might affect ECU. The oil runs off it might be main seal, cracked oil pan etc. If you run car without oil it will cause big problems in a future. Take VIN from them and check it
on carfax.com or something similar.Common problem for that model here:

In general car is good. There is consumer report here:
http://consumerguideauto.howstuffworks.com/2000-to-2002-jaguar-s-type.htm
But I would look another seller or bring the car to a good mechanic
to have everything checked before buying it.
Good Luck

Yes, They are good Cars But, Once the Oil Poured out of it I Personnally would have turned around and walked off. The Dealerships will tell you anything to sell a Car Right now and I would not trust that for a Second! Please Rate My Response! Thanks!

I have a 2000 BMW Z3 that has sat for about a year. I started it periodically and it always started right up. I went to start it one time and the battery was dead. I charged the battery and tried again....

Hi,
I think that if the battery went completely flat the vehicle may have lost the security code, or the same can have happened if you did not follow the boost charge instructions when starting. If that has happened you'll need to have the unit re-encoded by a dealer. Keep in mind that starting a vehicle periodically is good but if you don't run it as well the battery will become exhausted and finally fail. The start up of any engine drains more power from the battery than any other operation. You need to start it and give it a run.

go to any auto parts store and buy a haynes manual for your specific car. they are based on a complete teardown of vehicle. cost only 20.00 dollars. this book will tell how to remove fans. the dealers are a big rip off. you can do it with the help of this book. have a good day !!

Any "proper" shop should be aware of the precautions that need to be made when changing over a battery so that none of the items need re-setting. It's not the type of item that should be a "dealer only" repair,
