My four-wheel drive does not work

The light on the dash does not light up on the selected transmission settting. The four wheel drive worked before this happened

The transmission is working properly in two wheel. I have used a diagnostic computer and the four wheel will not communicate with the diagnostic unit. All vacuum lines and electrical plugs seem to be ok. My thought is that I have lost power under the dash somewhere but I do not have a electrical diagram complete enough to know where to look.

First of all when u push the button is there any noise under the car if not the motor on the transfer case could be bad first check all fuses in owners manual some could be under the hood
if u have power and have a noise under the car it could be the plastic inserts on the shift fork inside the transfer case it will have to come out!!!!!! the shift motor is on the drivers side of the transfer case and held in by three bolts remove the front drive shaft first with the motor loose try the shift motor
and see if it turns watch out for the metal shield behind the motor if it doesn't turn it is probably bad
hope I helped the last one I fixed I took the motor loose (let it hang) checked it out it worked when I put it back together ?????????? good luck

I HAVE A 2002, 4-WHEEL DRIVE, TOYOTA TUNDRA PICK-UP TRUCK. IT HAS A 4-WHEEL DRIVE PROBLEM. RECENTLY I USED THE 4-WHEEL DRIVE, IN HI-GEAR. IT PERFORMED GREAT. WHEN I DEPRESSED TO BUTTON ON THE DASH TO...

I was researching the recalls for the 2002 tundra and havent found any recall pertaining to the 4whl drive. Sometimes when people have their 4wheel drive locked in and drive on pavement for any length of time, whether it be just a couple of feet or a couple of miles, over time it creates a binding of the gears in your transfer case. Once the bind is so great, the engaging and disengaging starts malfunctioning and leads to bigger problems overall. I could be wrong about this being the problem that you have but I think its something to look into. It wouldnt hurt to put your vehicle up off all fours and release the bind if any by running through the gears while in 2 and rour wheel drive while all four tires can move freely and release. See if that works for you. Check your gear oil front , center and rear and use much caution when attempting this suggestion. Also refer to your owners manual troubleshooting section for other possibilities. Merry Christmas. By the way, the electrical switch should be covered in the troubleshooting section also.

4x4 will not work, lights on dash won't even come on. transmission shifts way to early also, don't know if that part of problem.

could be two problems one the solinoid in the transmission is stuck but this is electric it is not machanical if your four wheel drive is stuck there is a solinoid that controls that also that solinoid also controls the light switch that tells you that you are in four wheel drive...
first check all fuses for that are fuses on most trucks
most are in the box under the hood also check each relay
if everything is good (check the solinoid to see if it is getting electric if it is then replace the solinoid

I have a 1992 ford explorer which will not shift into overdrive, nor does the four wheel drive work. What can be causing this. The tranny fluid level seems to be fine so I don't think that could be the...

I had/have both of these problems with my '92 Explorer. They were unrelated. My overdrive problem
required a transmission rebuild. My four wheel drive not working is apparently a problem with the
computer which is hidden behind the left rear quaterpanel (in the jack compartment). Your four wheel
drive problem could be as simple as a blown fuse. There are 2 fuses for the four wheel drive system.
One inside under the dash and another higher amp fuse under the hood on the battery side. Or it
could be the more expensive problem like my computer problem or the engagement motor needing
rebuilt. The computer has a diagnostic mode that you can access by pressing the little square white
button on the underside of it with the key turned on but the motor not running. If the little red light
next to the button stays on, then the computer is bad. If the light flashes, the engagement motor is
bad.
