Loud ticking noise from motor

At first thought it was a lifter upon inspection it is a dual overhead cam with roller rockers aka (no lifters) not sure if it is a rod knocking. on acceleration the noise is louder than at an idle. I have not lost any power it will go as fast as I want it to. any thoughts

Ok I have dropped the pan replaced rod bearings no change. This is a 2 piece block and the mains all come out at once if the motor is still in car. I unbolted the torque converter from flywheel still no change. My next 2 steps are to drop the main bearings and look at the counter balance under the motor. Any other suggestions?????????

Can lifters be replaced

Oh yea, lifters can be replaced , best if you replace cam an lifters together ! Loud knocking is not usually associated with lifters , they usually make a ticking noise ! Knocking noise is most usually in the bottom of the motor , main or rod bearings . most of the time rod bearings !

Loud ticking noise under the hood of my 2003 ford explorer

if your lifters are sticking, you can try using MARVEL MYSTERY OIL. depending on the mileage and whether it's dual over head cam or over head valve ,their is a chance that a cam lobe could be worn or a rocker could be worn or slipped off. a lifter will collapes and some can even replaced without removing the head.

Tikking noise coming from engine

Yes, you're right, those could be the cause. Also, possible it's a collapsed hydraulic valve lifter, if your car has hydraulic operated (from engine oil) valve lifters. At any rate, it sounds like something loose in the valve train-valve lifter with push rod engines; or cam followers {rocker arms) with overhead cam engines that push on the top of valve stems .
Check a repair manual to see if your engine has valves that can be and need adjusting. Engines with valve lifters do not require periodic adjustment for proper valve clearance. Engines with rocker arms do require checking the valve clearance every couple of years or so.

A loud ticking noise?

No I would not chase to the pistons, these vehicle were very comon in creating HLA noise hydraulic lash adjusting valves, meaning the valves pump up with oil as the oil gets thinner they dont pump up as fast and create a very loud ticking noise, I would not express a great concern over simplicity, dodge was famous for this, they really were.

I had a ticking noise and i adjusted the rocker arm and most of it went away. Could this be the only problem? It is a 96 pontiac sunfire

if high milage motor seems fine leave it as is-not proper way to fix either have worn cam, rocker, or bad lifter. old chevy motors with car running was zero latch no ticking 3/4 to 1 turn to center lifter plunger

See if the cam or rocker arms are worn. New lifters and other worn parts won't work. Also make sure you have good oil pressure and the oil is getting to the top of the engine.

Hearing a ticking and a friend of mine said that some chryster just do that is that true am worried its the motor

the ticking on a 1995 with solid lifters or overhead cam design is likely caused by out of adjustment valve lifters. Not sure of milage, but common on high milage cars and especially those with an overhead cam or solid (not oil filled) hydralic lifters. I believe those models had an overhead cam.....Its a DIY job if you're comfortable performing the adjustment and have the tools to measure the gaps.

Most dodge motors have adjusters on the rockers for taking up slack in the valve-train. when these get worn or plugged by dirt they turn the valves from soft hydraulic to hard ticking due to a space between the lifter and the valve. If this is an overhead cam with roller lifters then these have become worn or fouled.
